The highlight of my trip to Korea was definitely Sungsimdang. It’s a place everyone must visit and try at least once. Since they don't have branches outside of Daejeon, you have to go there to get their bread, but it is absolutely worth the time and effort.
There are five locations in total, and the Daejeon Station branch is the fastest place to buy bread. It has the earliest opening time at 7:00 AM, and its location inside the station makes it very easy to find. I took a train on Thursday morning, arrived around 9:40 AM, and was able to buy my bread after waiting in line for only about 10 minutes.
The lines for regular bread and the Fried Soboro sets are different, so if you're with someone, it's much faster to split up and line up separately. Buying the Soboro in a set is a bit cheaper too. You absolutely must get the red bean and sweet potato flavors; the chive one is optional. Among the regular breads, the salt croissant is the best I've ever had. The pollack roe baguette is a must-buy, and I had a hard time choosing because so many other breads were both affordable and delicious.
Even after keeping the Fried Soboro in the fridge and eating it the next day, it was still delicious. I recommend bringing an ice box or an insulated bag to keep the bread fresh while traveling.
I'm telling you once more, Sungsimdang should be the top priority on your must-eat list. I'll probably feel homesick for Korea just thinking about their bread.😁
I’m happy to wait in line to get a variety of delicious breads from this shop. As a foreign tourist, I love the bread here; the shop is always crowded and the bread sells out quickly.
I passed by around 10 pm on Saturday, and all the popular items were sold out. The staff was helpful to me by explaining what was going on in English, and I'm grateful for that.
This is a small shop without any seat, but the bread was tasty, and the price is fair.
Even if there is queue, line moves fast. Better ask if there is cream inside if you are planning to bring it home to your home country.
I bought: the one in the box, mocha bread, walnut bread, soboro and the spicy pollack roe bread.
A variety of breads are full of excellent flavor, very fresh and tasty.
So glad to know this bakery has a branch and happy to have a chance to taste various breads at this branch store.
Highly recommended!
