Sushi 35 West

I mean. You shouldn't be able to get amazing, delicious and perfect sushi from some little shop above a smoke shop. And yet, here is sushi 35 West. I've had take away from here three different times. Each time I'm blown away by the quality. The fish. Just perfect pieces of sushi. The unagi bowl is striking. Each component. The eel, the avocado and the rice. Yum. I don't even live anywhere close to here. And yet whenever I'm in town, omg. I need it.

Here for the exquisite quality of fish, not for the atmosphere, but there is something kinda fun about having excellent sashimi in a random hallway next to cooler boxes. Lunch set was great, with a healthy serving of sushi rice and a small, fresh baby greens salad. Yellowtail jalapeño was fresh, buttery and delicious with the yuzu sauce. Sashimi assortment was excellent! Highly recommend.

Total spent for takeout: $189.53 Omakase (chef’s choice): $130 Toro Toro roll: $23 High-quality sushi that feels like a great value for the price. Ordering ahead was super easy, and pickup was smooth and efficient. The shop is located upstairs and has very limited seating (just two tables), so it’s better suited for takeout rather than dining in. The fish was fresh, well-prepared, and thoughtfully selected in the omakase. Overall, a solid spot if you’re looking for quality sushi without the full sit-down experience.

This sushi spot is right next door to my office. It’s a small hole in the wall above the smoke shop. I would say it’s predominantly take out. There are only 3 small two person tables. I think the quality of the fish is well worth the price. And it’s a price i’m willing to pay for time and time again. I’ve had the rice bowls and the sushi/sashimi lunch. The food is fresh. They don’t skimp on the fish slices. The sushi bowls leave you satisfied but not overly full to the point of falling asleep at your desk at 2 in the afternoon. This review may not seem objective but I adore this spot.

Found Sushi 35 West and I’m still thinking about it. Tiny spot above a vape shop, would’ve walked right past it. Ordered the Sushi Premium Box and the Spicy Crunchy Tuna Roll and got absolutely blown away. The fish quality is wild. Never been to Japan, but this is what I picture real sushi tasting like. Put this on your NYC list.
