Mentai sauce is a Japanese-inspired condiment typically made with mentaiko (spicy pollock roe), mayonnaise, and sometimes other seasonings, resulting in a creamy, savory, and slightly spicy flavor.
A sauce is defined as a liquid, cream, or semi-solid food. It is typically served on or used in the preparation of other foods, primarily to add flavor, texture, and visual appeal, and is generally not consumed by itself. The term "sauce" is a French word, possibly originating from Latin terms related to "salted." Historical examples include Ancient Roman garum and Chinese doubanjiang.
