A Toda Madre is a very nice meeting place on Main Street in downtown Glen Ellyn. It’s not your typical Mexican restaurant as it offers seasonal menus with locally sourced ingredients.
Everything is made in house from scratch daily. All the items we ordered tasted delicious. The fresh ground spices made each item taste uniquely different which was a refreshing surprise. The guacamole and 3 salsas were amazing. Tacos were generously filled and the bowl was perfectly sized for lunch!
Service is excellent and you’re not rushed thru your meal. They have comfortable seating indoors as well as an outdoor patio. Decor is bright and inviting. There is plenty of free parking on the street and a lot near the train tracks (3 hours).
Came from Florida for personal reasons and the first thing my boyfriend said as soon as we arrived to the airport was “Let’s head to a Toda Madre.” As a Hispanic woman I am always very hesitant to go to Mexican/Latin restaurants, but I decided to be open minded, and the experience at A Toda Madre was definitely better than what I expected. The restaurant is beautiful and modern with outdoor and indoor seating. A well stocked bar with wonderfully crafted cocktails, extensive selection of margaritas and an awesome selection of Mexican beers.
The menu is varied without being overwhelming. We had some scrumptious Authentic Mexican tacos that were really packed with meats and seasoned to perfection. We also ordered a variety of shareable sides, and the waitress gave us a complimentary dessert for visiting from Tampa. Which shows how much they value their customers and we truly appreciated the gesture since we were only here for two days for a funeral… so that meant a lot for us. Thank you for such great service and hospitality. We will definitely come back whenever we are back in town. Thank you again.
I will have dreams tonight about the tortillas. They were so good. Don’t get me wrong, so was everything on to of the tortillas. I was feeling fancy tacos and A Toda Madre delivered. A delightful atmosphere for a date night conversation. The guac was just right. The margarita was amazing. That queso camaron was to die for. Cannot wait to go back. Only knock was they were out of mocktail and said they couldn’t “just whip something up” so my pregnant wife got the lemonade which was mid. Everything else tho, fire.
This review is not a fun one to leave. We had a great time at their other restaurant in Geneva. Honestly, one of the best dining experiences we’ve ever had… so we were really excited to try this location.
Unfortunately, it was a terrible experience. We went at 8:45 on a Saturday night, which was the earliest reservation we could get. They close at 10:00, so we figured they would still be going strong. Nope. It felt like they were already shutting down for the night. Everyone seemed checked out.
Our server seemed nice enough, but was hardly ever around. We ordered a couple of appetizers. One came out right away, but the other took forever. When it finally arrived, we didn’t have anything to cut it with, so we were trying to use a spoon. Normally we would have flagged someone down, but no one was around. I tried making eye contact with someone, but nothing. By the time the server finally came back, the appetizer was cold and gross.
We had wanted to try a bunch of different things, but after that appetizer experience, we decided to just order two tacos and leave. No one else working checked on us either. It looked like an owner or manager was there, but they never came by our table. No one seemed to care we were there so we will just go somewhere else. Total shame.
Sometimes all you need is to have a good drink and to eat like a queen! Gabe made me the best watermelon margarita and recommended the best food. Will definitely be back for the carnitas and the papas con rajas were also to die for! 10/10 experience our server Gabe made it even better.
