Once this was my favorite place to eat it Tel Aviv, I would crave their dishes and visit regularly. Now they have completely changed the concept, raised the prices and the food is HORRIBLE. The widely advertised fried fish sandwich is flavorless and subpar. They add caviar to it which you cannot even taste because of the horrible aioli they created and the fish is not fresh and dry. Very sad to see. What a waste of a good restaurant that had very fine food for good prices.
For years, Batshon on Carlebach Street was an absolute crown jewel and our favorite restaurant in the entire country. As an olah living in Israel with my Israeli husband, this was the spot we chose for every celebration, and the mandatory first stop whenever family or friends visited from Australia, Russia, or anywhere else abroad. Everyone always fell in love with it.
After weathering some confusing menu shifts over the past year and throughout the war, we stayed loyal, hoping things would stabilize. And it did up until about December. But the recent overhaul following the departure of their French chef has completely stripped the restaurant of its soul.
What used to be a cherished sit-down seafood destination has been awkwardly converted into a fast-food hybrid. The ordering process is a headache: two kiosks, where one is out of order, give it the chaotic vibe of a McDonald's or Rebar. Instead of a relaxing meal, you are left sitting at a table with people literally standing over you in the queue. The atmosphere is stressful and unpleasant.
The food has taken an equally sharp downturn. The octopus was not charred, it was burned to the fiery pits of hell, making the sandwich an outright rip-off for the price. The lavrak sandwich was literally just fish and a bun with some oily aioli, and it lacked any distinct flavor. Even the ceviche and non-fried options fall short, and I can honestly make better at home.
It is genuinely devastating to watch an institution with this much history lose its way.
At this point, it feels like they have just given up, and honestly, as harsh as it sounds now, I wish they just were a fish shop because a food establishment they are not. I actually cried a little knowing we’d never be back.

Amazing. If you like sea food as much as I do, this is the place you will definitely enjoy. The huge advantage that it's open in Saturday. And not expensive. There we 4 of us (2 adults and 2 kinds) we ordered fried calamari, shrimps, a couple of oysters, 1 bottle of wine, fried locus and seviche. Without tips 400 nis. Was super fast, super fresh and very tasty! Will definitely come back again.

The place is rather small, so can feel a bit crowded. But nothing can really beat such an affordably priced fish and seafood option at such a central location. Highly recommended for lunch if you're in the area.

An unassuming casual seafood restaurant. The dishes were not overly seasoned so you could taste the freshness. I took the ceviche and seafood plate which were both delicious.
That said, the prawns were very roughly peeled, which made the mouthfeel weird. Green salad was a sad bowl of greens. There seems to be daily specials that weren’t reflected in the menu, the server didn’t mention it so it might be worth asking.
Limited seating, reserve in advance.
