Emmy Squared Pizza is renowned for its unique Detroit-style pizza, which combines elements of a New York-style 'grandma' pie with a thick, crispy, and cheesy crust. The restaurant also offers gourmet burgers, including the popular Le Big Matt. It emphasizes high-quality, often local, ingredients and a menu that evolves with the seasons. The ambiance is described as warm, modern, and comfortable.
Customer Perception
Customer feedback highlights excellent service, with servers often praised for being friendly and attentive. The Detroit-style pizza is generally very well-received, with many calling it their favorite in NYC, appreciating its crispy edges, soft center, and creative flavors. The garlic sticks are also highly recommended. However, opinions on the Le Big Matt burger are mixed; some find it overpriced and lacking flavor or being dry, while others enjoy the overall experience. Some customers find the pizza's cheese blend to have an 'odd taste' or the food to be 'heavy'.
Emmy Squared Pizza is part of the same ownership group as Emily Pizza, another well-known pizza establishment. The restaurant has multiple locations across Manhattan, including East Village and Hell's Kitchen, and is praised as a 'welcome addition' to Manhattan's pizza scene.
No specific best times to visit are mentioned in the provided information, but it appears to be a popular spot for lunch and dinner.

I don’t usually take the time to write reviews, but some experiences deserve to be recognized and the hospitality my family received at Emmy Squared Pizza on the Upper West Side is one of them.
I first discovered this location in early spring because my son had swimming lessons nearby every Saturday morning. What started as a quick pizza stop after swimming quickly became one of our favorite weekly traditions. Before long, Nicole and the team knew our order, remembered our favorite table, and welcomed us like family. My oldest son is autistic, and routine and familiarity are incredibly important to him. The way they consistently made him feel comfortable, welcomed, and genuinely special meant more to me than I can ever properly explain.
Over time, Nicole became so much more than just a friendly face at a restaurant. We would talk about life, my family, and everything happening in between swimming lessons and pizza. During a particularly difficult time for our family, including the loss of my children’s grandfather, her kindness and warmth gave me a sense of comfort I didn’t even realize I needed. It honestly felt like an unexpected therapy session in the middle of our Saturday routine.
On my son’s final day of swimming lessons, when he received his certificate, the team went above and beyond and made him a special pizza to celebrate. They gave him the absolute red-carpet treatment, and I will never forget the joy and excitement on his face. They made my children feel like they were the most important people in the room and what touched me even more was watching them create that same feeling for other families and customers, even when the restaurant was busy.
The manager, Nicole, and the kitchen team showed us a level of genuine hospitality that I honestly haven’t experienced in a very long time. They didn’t just serve us food they created a place where my family felt seen, welcomed, safe, and cared for. For families looking for a warm and comfortable environment especially families with autistic children I cannot recommend Emmy Squared Pizza on the Upper West Side enough.
This restaurant gave us more than pizza. They gave us a tradition, a safe space, beautiful memories, and the feeling of being welcomed with open arms. That kind of hospitality is rare, and it deserves to be celebrated. I will be recommending this location to everyone I know because Nicole, the manager, and the entire team truly made an unforgettable impact on my family. ❤️🍕 And I’m actually writing this review on a Saturday which should tell you just how much I miss them! I even told my son that I would never go to another pizza restaurant again unless I was stepping foot back into Emmy Squared. That’s how special this place became to us.
One of the best square pizzas I have had. The MVP pizza is a must try! The base is crisp but the top is soft and warm. The sauce is super fresh. The service is fast and they have outdoor seating too. The menu is a mix of vegetarian and meat options.
One of the unique pizzas and definitely recommended!
Great spot for Detroit style pizza. I had a Cesar salad and just a pepperoni pizza. The salad was delicious and good amount. The pizza was really good just felt that it is a little expensive based on the serving size and the amount of pizza options in the city but still a solid pizza to try.
The staff were very friendly and informative. Founder’s pizza was pretty good— rather spicy, and you taste the honey, but it’s not overpowering or anything— balanced flavors. Sweater Weather mocktail is WONDERFUL— passion fruit heaven
Can't comment on atmosphere as it was late on a Sunday. Our server was great, food was quick and tasty. Clean place with a bar counter for the solo traveler as well as various sized tables. Outdoor seating was available.
