Sophie — an honest review ☕️
Honestly, I think Sophie is a little overhyped, mostly by tourists.
There’s usually a huge queue, and finding a table can be quite a challenge. If you’re hoping to sit down and enjoy your coffee and pastry in peace, don’t count on it. It’s self-service, so there isn’t really much of a service experience either.
The coffee? Perfectly okay, but definitely not among the best I’ve had in Berlin. Just average — nothing memorable. The pastries were also fine, but nothing that made me think, wow, I’d queue for this again.
And for €20 for two pastries and a coffee, I honestly expected more.
Berlin has so many better cafés with better coffee, more interesting pastries, nicer atmospheres and similar prices.
So my verdict: if you want to check off a famous tourist spot, go for it. If you’re actually looking for great coffee and something delicious, I’d skip the queue.
Personally, I wouldn’t come back
I can honestly say I found my favorite pastry/bread place in Berlin. Like many, I discovered this place because of a certain famous dude that was obsessed with SOFI. I thought it was just a hype, but it actually is 100% worth it.
Their morning bun is absolute perfection and their coffee is amazing. I also loved the miso cookie! Their sourdough bread tasted divine and if you toast it on a pan, it has the best and yummiest texture to eat as you like (for me butter + pecorino / parmesan = perfect).
Although we were there on a Saturday, we sat by their window and could stay there until it closed. Very good environment and although there is a line, it went fast.

5/5 coffee , 4.5/5 pastry. The one thing that absolutely stood out surprisingly was the coffee. The latte was smooth and probably the best i had in Berlin. We had ham cheese croissant, ham cheese sandwich both was decent. This charming place in a courtyard has plenty of seating indoors and some outdoors. Caters mostly for typical brunch id say towards cakes and pastries. Berlin is interesting in the sense they hav these cafes in the courtyard which can be very picturesque and thus this is one of THE cafes in Berlin.

The morning I visited, there was unfortunately collab event so I couldn’t get try the full menu. I, however, took a couple of their famous pastries to-go.
The Savory Croissant was incredible! The top was super crunchy and perfectly buttery, and the cheese + mustard filling was absolutely delicious.
The Morning Bun was really nice and flaky too, but a tad bit too heavy for my liking.
The coffee was good quality and paired really well with the pastries.

I went there on a Saturday, we tried the croissant, the savoury pastry of the day (it was something with a spinach and parmesan cream, it was delicious), cookie and cold brew.
It was so good that we went back there on the next day haha. We wanted to try their bread (ham & cheese sandwich) and the savoury croissant.
It's a really beautiful place, plenty of seating, very good location as well (it's a very nice area to walk around it). I highly recommend it and I'll definitely visit again soon.
