Capital Restaurant, Hammersmith: A Tube-Side Gem (With a Price Tag)
If you’re looking for a spot that nails the "location, location, location" rule, Capital Restaurant in Hammersmith is hard to beat. I recently stopped by and here is the breakdown of the experience.
The Atmosphere & Service
Right off the bat, the convenience is unmatched—it’s situated directly opposite the tube station, making it the perfect "meet-up" spot or a reliable sanctuary after a long commute.
What really makes the place shine, though, is the team. The staff are super friendly; they have that rare ability to be attentive without being overbearing, which instantly makes the dining room feel welcoming rather than just another busy London eatery.
The Food
The kitchen definitely knows what it's doing. Every dish that hit the table was genuinely delicious, featuring fresh ingredients and bold flavors that lived up to the hype. Whether you’re there for a full meal or just a few plates to share, the quality is consistent and impressive.
The Reality Check
Now, for the "London" of it all. While the food and service are top-tier, you’ll definitely feel the pinch when the bill arrives. We’re talking crazy London prices—the kind where you find yourself double-checking the cost of a side dish. It’s the classic trade-off for prime real estate and quality cooking in the heart of the city.
The Verdict: Come for the convenience and the warm vibes, stay for the fantastic food, but maybe keep an eye on your banking app while you’re at it.
We ordered the house special, it’s a mixed grill to feed 2 to 3 people. Can definitely feed 3 people. Let’s start off on a positive note. The grilled wings are phenomenal, more like Afghan grilled wings than Turkish grilled wings in terms of flavour/marinade. The crisp on the wings are immaculate, the juiciness of the wings retained. The wings were the star of the show, so much so that I think this store should only serve these wings, 1 item on the menu. Unfortunately my verdict is that this should have been a one man show. The Adana kofte was just about good, and everything else was exceptionally mediocre. Lacking seasoning and dry, especially the lamb shish. Vehemently disappointed in how flavourless the shish kebabs were. I just forgot that we had chops, that’s how forgetful they were. I’m sorry to be a harsh critic, but when spending £60+ I expect more. I must reiterate that the grilled wings are so nice, I’d come back here along just for the wings.
The salad was very fresh and tasty, especially the dressing it’s bathed in. The dips were nice, as was the bread.
Overall, I’m quite disappointed in the food.
The service was also subpar, we had to call for the servers attention after a while of waiting, and one patron had left the premises even though they arrived before us, as they were waiting to have their order taken but were not tended to. Whilst we had our meal, a server did not come over to ask us if everything was okay. However, I must caveat this with the fact they are understaffed, they need more waiters for sure.
I would not come back to this establishment (unless for the wings), but it was rated one rating below satisfactory.
I must note my companion had a significantly better culinary experience than me, so this may be down to personal preference.
Thank you Hanna Our dinner at Capital Restaurant was fantastic, but what truly made it a memorable experience was our waiter, Hanna .She is service was absolutely impeccable.
What an incredible find! From start to finish, our experience was flawless. The mixed grill was bursting with flavor, and the Lamb Ribs as cooked to perfection. The service was attentive and friendly without being overbearing. The atmosphere was lively and inviting. We can't wait to come back and try the rest of the menu. Highly, highly recommend!
Thank you Hanna
