A well-oiled machine for distribution of delicious baked goods. As a newbie to the bakery, I ended up going in the wrong door and found myself at the coffee station, but what I should have done is follow the line of people waiting for their go at the counter to order. The morning is peak time for buying baked goodies, and the vibe of the bakery is that the crowd were either locals or (many time) repeat customers. After the quick progression to the counter from entering, I was greeted by a wall of delicious looking bread of all varieties. The Asiago olive loaf was my first sampling, and I toasted it to add a little crispiness once I got it home. The mix of slightly baked onions and olives in the sinewy loaf was amazing, the cheese being a lovely accent. It made me wish I had bought at least one more. The scones were the real bread all-stars for me. The corn-cherry scones were so damned hearty. The corn meal added an even richer texture to the scone, so I loved it even more, but the crown jewel of the scones was the oat-cranberry scone. The crust was this and crispy, and the inside was perfectly crumbly and soft. Definitely buying that again on my next visit. So many things still on the menu that I want to try. The cost performance of this bakery is incredible. The only hassle is parking in the area, which being in Berkeley means it’s going to be awful just about all of the time. The staff was effective as hell and got me through quickly, but the staff seemed willing to step me through examining some of the offerings, but customer speed did seem to be valued as part of the bread buying experience.
Hands down, the best pizza I had in my life. Every day, they prepare only one kind of veggie pizza. There is always line, but moves fast. Don’t miss it, if you are around.
Finally made it to the Cheese Board Pizza Collective in Berkeley — a spot I’ve wanted to try for years.
They serve one style of pizza a day, and when it’s gone, it’s gone. Today’s slice with baby chard and kale, leek, mozzarella, ricotta salata, garlic olive oil, and citrus zest was fresh, unique, and seriously good.
I’m usually a simple pizza guy, but this one delivered. Absolutely worth the wait. A true Berkeley staple.
Popped in on April 30 and tried the mushroom pizza + salad. They do a different vegan pizza every day. As a huge meat lover, I was surprised by how much I liked the mushroom one. The staff were super sweet and even gave me an extra slice! Also, the salad was so fresh, and that green sauce is so good that I bought a small tub to take home.
Love that it’s a worker-owned co-op with a classic Berkeley feel. Their website is actually super helpful too. You can check the daily pizza/bakery menu and live music schedule before you go.
MUST Visit this place especially if you are a strict vegetarian. You CANNOT go wrong with their quality and hygiene. Be ready to wait for 15-20 mins in line to enjoy the pizza
