Dinosaur Bar-B-Que started in 1988 as a biker bar in Syracuse and somehow became one of the best barbecue destinations in New York City, which is not a city where BBQ is usually the first thing you think of. The Harlem location sits under the Riverside Drive Viaduct and has this post-industrial, lived-in feeling to it, brick walls, wood, big screens, and the kind of noise level that means everyone else is also having a good time. Getting there requires a subway trip north, but the people making the effort tend to report zero regrets.
The ribs are the anchor of the whole experience. We got a half rack and they came out with a proper smoke ring and the kind of bark on the outside that tells you they've been in a smoker for a while. The meat pulled off the bone cleanly but not easily, which is exactly how it should be. Alongside we had the pulled pork combo plate with mac and cheese and coleslaw, and the mac here deserves some recognition, creamy and a little sharp, not the box stuff. The brisket ended up at the table too and it was tender enough to pull apart, with a satisfying fat cap. The honey hush cornbread that comes with things is moist and slightly sweet and gone faster than anything else. Cocktails are solid and the beer selection is good enough to pair seriously with the meat.
A full table of smoked meats here is genuinely one of the more satisfying meals you can have in New York for the price.
We had a fantastic time at this restaurant and really enjoyed the overall atmosphere. The food was delicious. Service was okay. The quality of the meal and the vibe of the place made it a worthwhile visit. I’d definitely come back for the food!
I've been coming here for years and never disapoints. The ribs, pulled pork and cornbread are slamming, fun atmosphere, good selection of beers. The bar area is usually busy and service can be hit or miss, but no big deal everyone is friendly and the ribs melting in your mouth make up for the wait!
This is my third time at Dinosaur Bar-B-Que. The place is always packed. There was people alot of people waiting to be seated, because of how good this place is. The food is always fresh, hot and delicious. My whole family enjoyed their dinner tonight. Our server was Javi and he did an awesome job.
They have bar seat, booths, tables and outside seating. However outside seating was closed because of the cold weather. They do offer take out service. The atmosphere is great and is a whole vibes. I will definitely be back.
Btw there is a parking lot next door, that you can pay $12.99 per hour or $20 for 2 hours if you drive.
The best BBQ on the East Coast! Everything here is amazing, but the short ribs are an absolute must-try—easily the highlight of the meal. And don’t leave without getting the cookie bar for dessert. The only downside was that the service could’ve been a bit more attentive, but the food more than made up for it. Definitely worth the visit! 🍖🍪
