Emmy Squared Pizza in Philadelphia's Queen Village is renowned for its Detroit-style pizzas, characterized by their thick, crispy crusts and cheesy edges. A unique aspect of its decor is the presence of small dinosaur toys, a charming detail that originated from the founders' early, budget-conscious decorating efforts.
Customers frequently praise the delicious Detroit-style pizza, highlighting its thick crust and overall taste. The restaurant is noted for its relaxed vibe and excellent customer service, with specific shout-outs to attentive bar staff. Many find it a welcoming spot for both families and solo diners. However, some feedback indicates that takeout orders, particularly salads, can be inconsistent in terms of portion size and inclusion of dressings or toppings compared to dine-in experiences.
Additional Details
The restaurant's distinctive decor, featuring small dinosaur toys, is a quirky nod to its origins. The founders, when first setting up, used toys from around their house to decorate due to limited funds, and this charming tradition has been maintained.
Emmy Squared Pizza is open seven days a week, typically from 11:00 am, making it suitable for both lunch and dinner. Given its relaxed atmosphere, it's a good option for a casual meal any day.

I tried this place because it was literally right downstairs from the hotel I'm staying in. Had no idea what type of food they served until I got the menu. My girlfriend and I shared a regular size pizza (The Founders) and it was absolutely fantastic! The regular is 6 slices and the large is 10. I wish we had gotten the large but 6 was enough for both of us. The waiter recommended the MVP and I plan on trying that next time I go here. My girlfriend had the 1911 beer. She normally hates beer but she said it was the best beer she ever had. The music they played in the restaurant was nice as well. The restaurant has a real intimate vibe but there's a bar so there's also a more casual feel to it also. There are also little dinosaurs around the restaurant which is pretty interesting. The waiter said this was a result of the founders who didn't have money to decorate so they used toys from around the house and a lot of that has stayed. If you want some great pizza I would recommend this place! I don't have a picture of The Founder because I was quite hungry and the phone did NOT eat first. But I did take a picture of the MVP. We added some meat and it was equally as delicious. Didn't have room for dessert though 😭. I preferred the Founder because it has a sweeter taste but you won't go wrong with either!
Came here for the Gluten Free pizza and was not disappointed! I got the Margherita pizza on a gluten free crust and it was delicious. (Friends got pizzas on regular crust and were also happy with their choices!) They’re also very transparent about all of their potential allergens in the food and offer a QR code on the menu that allows you to see all the major allergens in each of their menu items. Service was friendly and the drinks were very good! I’ll definitely be coming back in the future :)
If you have celiac disease this is not a safe place to go. Based on my experience and others on find me gluten free, it seems every server has a different idea of what’s safe and I’m not even sure if the conversations with the servers make it back to the kitchen or what.
I have to give a low review because the server seemed to understand my request, but I called recently to ask about their cross contamination practices and they said their GF pizza is not celiac safe and that it is geared towards a GF “lifestyle.” No separate pans for GF crust but weirdly they DO use a separate cutter for the GF pizza? This was not relayed to me when I ate there. It was my first and last time going because I was glutened.
It’s SO sad for a place to have DELICIOUS gluten free pizza and have no ability to accommodate the people who are trying to eat here safely. If you have celiac you know pizza places are usually not safe so it’s not a surprise per se, just upsetting.
I always enjoy getting food from this place. But for the first time I got takeout I realized it’s not the same. I got a shaved Brussels sprout salad to be shared for $17 and there was enough Brussels sprouts to be shared, but there were very few Cranberries, pickled onions or blue cheese crumbles. Definitely a growing trend where food to go doesn’t come at the same standard as dining in when it comes to serving sizes.
Very nice place. They have really tasty pizza and good selection of drinks. The thick Detroit style pizza is delicious. Had a nice relaxed vibe. We really enjoyed our lunch. Will be back next time in Philly.
