I seem to be in the minority given the incredible reviews, but unfortunately our lunch at Evelyn’s Table didn’t quite live up to our expectations.
The concept is lovely. Only a few seats around the counter, watching the chefs prepare everything in front of you, and the team clearly puts a lot of care and effort into the experience. The food was good, but for us, it was just that: good. Both the vegetarian and non-vegetarian menus lacked some of the creativity, presentation and memorable flavors we’ve come to expect from Michelin-starred dining.
The tasting menu is also surprisingly short, essentially four dishes, and I think that raised our expectations for each course. With so few dishes, you expect every one to have a bit of a “wow” factor, and none really did for us.
We also tried both the wine and non-alcoholic pairings. Again, they were perfectly fine - some we really enjoyed, others less so, but neither added much to the overall experience.
The setting probably comes down to personal preference. I completely understand the intimate counter concept, but being in such a tiny basement space felt quite claustrophobic to me, and the seats are very close to the other guests.
Perhaps the evening experience has a completely different feel, and judging by the reviews, many people clearly love this place. For us, though, lunch simply felt like a nice meal at a good restaurant rather than the special Michelin experience we were hoping for.
Evelyn’s Table delivers one of the most captivating dining experiences in London. Sitting counter-side feels like front-row theater: you are right in the pulse of the kitchen, watching every precise move and chatting directly with the chefs as each plate comes together.
The menu is masterfully paced from start to finish. The bread course—paired with a rich, utterly addictive Tamworth cheese dip—sets the bar sky-high early on. The absolute showstopper, however, was the Peri-Peri monkfish: served with coco beans, vibrant rainbow chard, burnt lemon, and a delicate summer herb dashi, it balanced heat, bright acidity, and savory depth with total finesse.
Tying everything together was a genuinely inspired, off-the-beaten-path wine pairing that skipped generic crowd-pleasers in favor of unexpected, perfectly pitched pours. An unforgettable counter dining experience that combines Michelin-level precision with effortless warmth.

Superb experience from start to finish! Food and drinks at our fine dining experience was simply out of this world and one of a kind. Every dish served not only tasted sensational, but the aromas and textures were second to none too. All the staff and chefs were very friendly and attentive, which added to the experience indefinitely. The atmosphere was lovely too and the playlist (hip hop, soul and jazz) was right up our street! This was a birthday treat we will never forget, and feel so lucky to have been able to experience such exquisite dining. Well worth the money, and highly recommend if you are looking for an unique dining experience.

We had a fantastic time. Food was exceptionally well prepared by the 3 chefs in front of us.
Many courses and bites in between but as the portions are sized properly, you can enjoy throughout. Good wine matching overall (the rosato was less convincing than the others). The service was also spot on. We will be back

Absolutely fantastic experience dining at Evelyn’s Table. If we could rate it 7/5, we definitely would! Well executed dinner by a team of 5, serving a 5 course dinner. In reality, the team serves a lot more dishes, so it’s closer to a 9-10 course meal! Would definitely visit again if we have the chance.
We loved every single dish that was served. The flavour profile of the dishes were really well thought out and the balance of flavours were phenomenal. It’s really difficult to say which dishes were our favorite because every single dish was fabulous. The scallop in particular was very memorable and probably one of the best we’ve had!
The preparation (though most of the prep is done before service), cooking, and plating is done right in front of you, and you get to watch the chefs in action. It was a great experience to watch them prepare the food and explain each dish when serving you. The aesthetics of the plating were beautiful, and a lot of care and energy has been poured into each plate.
