Key Information
Fleur de Sel is a Michelin-starred destination restaurant located within the Šapat winery in Novi Slankamen, Serbia. Perched on a hill overlooking the Danube River, it offers stunning views and a unique gastronomic experience that blends traditional Serbian elements with top-tier modern European cuisine. The restaurant is known for its exceptional wine list, curated to complement its terroir-driven menu, and offers a chef's surprise tasting menu as well as a chef's table experience with a view into the kitchen.
Customers consistently praise Fleur de Sel for its exceptional food quality, describing dishes as masterpieces with outstanding tastes and flavors. The service is frequently highlighted as polished, knowledgeable, and attentive, with many recommending the wine pairing experience. The beautiful vineyard setting and Danube views are also major draws. While most reviews are overwhelmingly positive, some feedback notes that the interior decor can feel 'nouveau riche and somewhat kitsch' compared to the natural beauty and culinary excellence. One review found the tasting menu overpriced and some dishes underwhelming, but this was an outlier among generally glowing reviews.

Fleur de Sel in Šapat winery is a destination restaurant worth travelling for. The food was exceptional from start to finish and easily among the finest meals I have ever had in Serbia.
We began with the beef tartare and warm goose liver, both beautifully executed. The tartare was perfectly seasoned, while the foie gras was rich without being overwhelming. The Danube pike-perch with Jerusalem artichoke was elegant and showcased local ingredients at their best, and the pork neck on celeriac purée was wonderfully tender and deeply flavourful. Even the desserts were excellent, providing a fitting conclusion to a memorable meal.
We paired the dinner with Atila 2024 from the estate, which complemented the menu beautifully and proved that the winery is producing wines worthy of the kitchen.
Service was exactly as one would hope for at a restaurant of this calibre: polished, knowledgeable, attentive without ever becoming intrusive.
The only aspect that didn't quite match the overall experience was the interior. Considering the spectacular vineyard setting overlooking the Danube and the outstanding quality of the cuisine, the décor feels unnecessarily nouveau riche and somewhat kitsch. A more understated, elegant design would allow both the food and the magnificent location to take centre stage.
That said, this is a minor criticism. For anyone who appreciates serious cooking and excellent local wines, Fleur de Sel is one of Serbia's true culinary destinations.
What an amazing culinary experience!
It’s hard to put into words all the exceptional tastes and flavors we enjoyed at this outstanding restaurant.
The service was terrific and effortlessly warm, thanks to Marko and Uroš.
We had the honor of meeting the head chef, Nikola, and experiencing his genius creations firsthand — each dish was a masterpiece.
It’s no surprise they hold the No. 1 spot as the best restaurant in Serbia — it’s well deserved.
We’re already looking forward to our next visit!
One word… Excellence!
From the moment we walked in, everything was performed like a theater play. Every movement by the waiter was flawless, and each dish was introduced with a captivating story rooted in local and national tradition.
Every glass was paired with its own wine, and every plate had its story to tell.
Personally, I highly recommend choosing the wine pairing, as it truly reveals the flavors the Chef intended. I would also recommend taking their in-house wines for pairing, as they have beautiful notes.
Both “Fleur De Sel” and “Šapat” restaurants are stunning. Toward the end of the evening, the Head Chef personally greeted the guests and shared a few words, embodying the spirit of a true host. This was followed by a guided walk through the winery cellar with their sommelier.
To finish the experience, we received a thoughtful gift from the Chef: a personalized menu signed by him. The road to the restaurant is new and well maintained, kept clear of ice and snow. Without a doubt, this is a destination worth visiting! And an experience deserving of at least 2 Michelin stars
And a side compliment, before we started dining, the waiter asked if we had any alergies!
Fleur de Sel is a newly renovated restaurant set in a picturesque winemaking region just outside Belgrade. It’s part of the Šapat winery, perched on a hill above the Danube River, offering stunning views of the surrounding countryside.
We opted for the chef’s surprise tasting menu. While the presentation and execution were generally solid, the food itself was underwhelming. One dish in particular—local peas—was so oversalted it was barely edible. More importantly, not a single dish stood out as particularly memorable or impressive, which is disappointing given the restaurant’s fine dining aspirations and Michellin star rating.
The highlight of the experience was the wine list. Exceptionally curated, it features a selection of rare and premium labels, many of which are not even available on the Serbian market. This alone might have somewhat saved the whole experience.
However, the biggest issue—and the restaurant’s ultimate downfall—is the pricing. The tasting menu, priced at 20,000 dinars (around €170 or US$200), is exorbitant. The ingredients used—langoustines, duck, local Danube fish, and a touch of inexpensive caviar—are all fairly common and accessible. There’s nothing especially luxurious, exclusive or unique to justify such a high price point for the tasting menu.
Would I return or recommend Fleur de Sel? Unfortunately, no. The experience simply does not deliver value for money. If the tasting menu were priced more appropriately—perhaps in the €50–60 range—it could be a pleasant option for those seeking a fine dining setting in a beautiful location. But as it stands, it falls short of expectations and certainly doesn’t reach Michelin star standards in my view.
Fleur De Sel Chef’s Table is an outstanding gastronomy experience! Tucked into the lower level of the winery you are seated in a private room with a commanding view of the kitchen. Ten dedicated chefs operate flawlessly under the direction of the head chef. The symphony of pots and glassware creates a pleasant background and when each dish is plated it comes out immaculately presented the dish ware and flat ware deserve special note as they were individually sourced to complement each dish. Ingredients are Serbian whenever possible and were extremely fresh. The wine pairings flowed seamlessly with each dish and by the end of the evening we were fully satiated and happy that we came.
