FYN has been a culinary destination for quite some time. The restaurant has received many awards and I am happy to say that the concept of combining Asian and South African flavors is still very convincing. The ambiance is unique and at first you will notice that there are no tablecloth's. It creates a
"naked" feel and directs your attention to the individual dishes. This makes most sense if you choose the full dining experience were several dishes shine through their presentation. The menu changes with what is available during the season allowing you to enjoy a variety of presentations each time you visit.
FYN is, without question, one of the finest restaurants in Cape Town and easily among the best dining experiences I have had anywhere in the world. Located on the top floor of a city building, the restaurant combines stunning interior design with a calm, elegant atmosphere and remarkably low noise levels, something increasingly rare in modern fine dining.
The cuisine is deeply inspired by Japanese flavors and techniques, while still rooted in South African ingredients and creativity. Every dish was beautifully balanced, visually striking, and full of precision. The wine pairing was exceptional and elevated the entire experience even further.
Michelin may not award stars in South Africa, but FYN certainly does not need them. The food, service, and overall experience easily rival many three star restaurants I have visited internationally.
What impressed me even more happened the following day. During dinner, there had been confusion within our group when paying the bill, and we accidentally paid the tip twice. The mistake was entirely ours. When I stopped by the next day to ask about it, the restaurant manager carefully reviewed the payment and later called me personally to say they had refunded the duplicate tip. That level of honesty, professionalism, and generosity says a great deal about the people behind the restaurant.
A truly sublime experience from beginning to end, and very highly recommended.

I have been to FYN four or five times over the years, but today’s lunch surpassed all the previous excellent experiences. I don’t think anywhere else in Cape Town comes close to what one experiences here. Additionally, Jennifer’s presence ensured a calm and orderly atmosphere which was somewhat missing on my last visit. Today the food was exceptional both in terms of presentation, an understanding of the ingredients, flavour and texture. Successfully innovative combinations of quality produce perfectly matched with some outstanding wines. Yes it is expensive by local standards but for me worth every penny and at a fraction of the cost of a comparable meal in Europe. How lucky are we! My words cannot express the excellence of every course I enjoyed so I let the pictures speak for themselves.

I celebrated my birthday lunch at FYN on 6 April, and it was immediately clear why they’re consistently ranked the top restaurant in South Africa. The entire experience was seamless service flowed effortlessly, with different wait staff stepping in and out without a single gap or break in rhythm. It felt choreographed without ever feeling stiff. Would 100% recommend without a doubt!
We were seated facing Table Mountain on a clear, sunny Cape Town afternoon, which added a quiet sense of luxury to the whole experience. FYN’s space already feels architecturally intentional, but that view elevated it even further.
The lunch menu was beautifully structured around local landscapes and ingredients. Highlights for me
Land Plants: kuri squash, tulbaghia and autumn greens, a dish that felt like a study in texture.
Cape Farms: Outeniqua springbok with garlic buchu and cepes, rich without being heavy.
Fruit‑n‑Nut — pecan, pineapple and blueberry, a bright finish.
If you’re going for lunch, I’d strongly recommend pairing it with their Lunch Cellar & Rarities Pairing. The selection includes bottles and vintages that aren’t always available to the public. It’s one of the most unique pairings I’ve seen in South Africa, and it genuinely deepens the menu.
Overall, FYN delivered a world‑class experience without a single misstep. Exceptional food, rare wines, flawless service, and a view that quietly reminds you why Cape Town is unmatched. Would absolutely recommend.

Fyn is in my opinion THE BEST restaurant in Cape Town. The food truelly honors south african ingredients and invokes a sense of wonder. The staff are friendly and very knowledgeable about every detail of the restaurant. You can feel the passion and dedication in all the staff and they are happy to entertain guests who want to engage in the theater that is the meal.
