Aside from two breads that we didn’t like - this was a delicious and cozy French spot in Portland with good service. What we ordered:
- oysters: really good although I do like when there’s a spice to add
- chicken liver mousse: omg would come back again just for the mousse. INCREDIBLE. However, the bread was not good. Tasted like a way too oily deep fried bread. We ended up ordering the side baguette preferred that bread.
- French onion soup: again, disappointing bread. When I got bites of just soup and cheese it was great
- Duck: so delicious!!! Perfect temp and really yummy
- chocolate dessert: delicious! However, my husband was a bit disappointed and shared that he felt it needed more of a punchy flavor.
All in all very good with just a few items that slightly detracted.
An elevated French bistro experience.
Came on a Sunday evening and the atmosphere was calm, dimly lit, and pleasant. The space feels polished but still comfortable, and overall it made for a relaxed dining experience. We booked a few days in advance which worked well — though walk-ins may still be possible depending on timing.
Service was attentive and the restaurant felt clean and well run throughout the evening.
Food was solid overall and comfortably met expectations for a French bistro at this price point.
Highlights from what we ordered:
Oysters – fresh and delicious, exactly what you’d hope for.
Bread & Butter – warm and excellent. Honestly a must when dining somewhere like this.
Jambon Plate – nice spread of pickles, mustard, and meat, but probably something I’d skip next time. The bread didn’t feel quite as fresh as the separate loaf ordered à la carte and the portion/value didn’t quite justify it.
Chicory & Pear Salad – decent overall, though the radicchio and blue cheese leaned a bit too bitter for my taste. The pear helped, though it could only balance so much.
For mains:
Duck Leg Confit – the standout. Comforting and well balanced without being overly rich. Definitely worth ordering.
Steak Au Poivre – solid with great quality meat and a good sauce. You’ll likely want a side to pair with it (the Frites would make sense here).
Pork Schnitzel – good overall. Crispy breading without feeling greasy or overly salty, and the sauce rémoulade was a nice touch. Filling enough that a side probably isn’t necessary.
Solid wine list as well. We paired a really nice orange wine with our appetizers that ended up working especially well alongside the duck.
Overall a pleasant dining experience. Prices lean toward the premium side, and while everything comfortably met expectations, nothing quite pushed it into five-star territory.
FYI: They can also accommodate allergies as needed — for example with gluten (including Celiac). The Frites are prepared in a dedicated fryer and other dishes can be modified to avoid cross-contamination.

Our first time here and we really enjoyed ourselves. We had a reservation and were seated immediately. The atmosphere is really moody/cozy. Our waiters were very kind too. My husband and I had the Beef Tartare and the Shrimp cocktails as starters. We also tried the wine flight, Halibut Vin Blanc, and the Vichy carrots to pair with it. All delicious, so many layers of flavor. Portion sizes were perfect. We left extremely satisfied but not overly full. A revisit will be in our future.

The food was delicious, the service was nice, and I enjoyed the candle lit atmosphere. Ordered two cocktails, one called the Kelley point which was a rye whiskey drink that was well made. The other cocktail was called the garden party with tequila Blanco, kombucha, beet root, ginger, turmeric, and cucumber which was refreshing and pleasant. Ordered: Jambon plate, French onion soup, seared fennel & fomage blanc, frites, duck leg confit, steak au poivre, pairing of cheeses with a petit menseng. 🍷😋 I may be biased because I love French food but this place nailed it. The food was rich, comforting, and delicious. I was full afterwards and it was worth it! Parking is annoying and it's a bit pricey. I would still come back though. If you like comforting French food with what they say are "locally sourced" ingredients then I would reccomend L'Echelle.

The restaurant looked beautiful. It was a Wednesday, we had a reservation for 6 and were seated immediately. By 7pm the restaurant was full. The oysters were amazing. Onion soup, the broth was spot on, to bread heavy for me, but still delicious. Liver mousse was...smoooooth.
