First time in there. We were checking around others Restaurants but we decided to have lunch here because of the fresh fish. We thought It was going to be the classic fish and chips but we were surprised by the taste. We ordered Fried Calamaro and Breaded Haddock, both very tasty. We would like to highlight Megan's services who took care of us all the time. Highly recommended.👌🏻
Amazing.
We came here on 18 April 2026, after seeing it on the TV show "Somebody Feed Phil" as he'd raved about it. It was justified.
We both got the cod and chips, one with vinegar and salt, the other with just salt.
Both were incredibly delicious. The batter was golden and crunchy, the fish very fresh and not at all fishy tasting (I don't like seafood, yet I loved this). It was a generous serve and filled us both up.
There was a queue, but it moved at a reasonable pace - probably 15-20 minutes from when we joined to when we got our food. Pretty reasonable for freshly cooked food!
There was plenty of parking too. Tables we're a little limited, but you can either eat at the place or if it's full find somewhere else around the harbour.
Whether or not you like seafood, I suggest you come here and try the battered cod and chips. Very very good.

Probably the highlight of our trip and somewhere you can't miss out on. I'd go as far to say that it's worth the detour even if you weren't planning to be in the area.
Fish dinner we had was one of the best we have had. Period. Plenty of different items to choose on the menu and can't imagine any of them being bad. They have a sit in dining room, but it is limited so do make a reservation if you want a space. They also have a takeaway attached, which could be a preference on a nice day sat outside with a beer. 6 stars.

A seaside lunch to remember!
A spontaneous suggestion from my other half — “let’s go to the coast for fish and chips by the sea” — led us to The Fishmarket in Newhaven, and what a brilliant decision it turned out to be.
We were lucky enough to be greeted by glorious sunshine, but chose to dine inside the restaurant rather than opt for takeaway, and we weren’t disappointed. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, the waiting staff attentive without being intrusive, and the menu offered a great selection of fish dishes including tempting daily specials.
As someone who visits from south of the border, I was genuinely surprised by how reasonable the prices were — far more affordable than you might expect for the quality on offer.
For food, I went for the standard haddock and chips with accompaniments, and we shared a portion of sourdough bread and butter between us — three generous slices, perfectly suited for two. The batter was wonderfully light and crisp, and the fish itself was succulent, flavourful, and fell apart beautifully. I’ll admit I’m not usually a big fish fan and often struggle to finish a portion, but this was completely demolished — high praise indeed!
The Fishmarket is an absolute gem and comes highly recommended. One word of advice — I’d imagine this place gets very busy in the summer months, so booking a table in the restaurant would be wise. Don’t miss it.

A good proper chippy. We ordered the fried scampi, regular haddock, and a clam chowder.
Overall, it was priced reasonably well. The haddock came to £10, while the scampi with chips came to £12. I recommend taking it away and sitting on one of the benches outside.
Was pleasantly surprised by how good the curry sauce was. Coming from south east asia, this taste similar to the ones we get back home. Compliments the food very well and highly recommend getting one.
