Wonderful family dinner here. This is the Québécois rôtisserie from the team behind Mon Lapin, tucked into Little Italy, spit-roasted birds and a great wine list of French and Québec gems.
We went as a family of four (two adults, two young adults). The room is lovely - well finished and welcoming. Fair warning: it IS loud. Not crowded, but full, though it felt friendly rather than overwhelming.
The wine list was wonderful, and when I asked for a recommendation, our server brought two to try — I went with a delicious Quebec white. Service was great throughout: water never went unfilled, and our server walked us through the family-style menu with some recommendations, all of which we took.
We ordered the radish special, coleslaw, a full chicken, fries, onion buns, and at least one more dish I'm forgetting. Everything was delicious. Our pickiest eater (our eldest, a tough critic) loved it all. The gravy lives up to the hype - and I don't even like gravy.
We ate until we were stuffed, but nobody felt like they'd overdone it later - everything was fresh and well executed. We didn't hold back on food or drink, and the bill came to around $250. For comparison, we spent over $400 at a touristy downtown spot the next night, and it wasn't close.
Highly recommend.
We had a wonderful experience at Rôtisserie La Lune.
We were warmly welcomed from the moment we arrived, and several staff members greeted us with a friendly bonjour as we made our way to our table. The space is beautiful, with a distinctive 1970s postmodern feel and great energy.
The service was knowledgeable, attentive, and accommodating. The table set aside for us was a high-top, but when we asked to move to a regular table, they gladly obliged.
The chicken was moist and succulent, and the gravy was absolute perfection. A must-try. We’ll definitely be back soon.
Behind a large elegant carved wooden door lays a restaurant raved for their elevated québécois rôtisserie experience in a beautiful and lively brasserie setting.
The appetizers at Rôtisserie La Lune were all fantastic and are great additions to any meal. The XL croqu'ailes stuffed wings were crispy, juicy, and utterly indulgent, and the mustard sauce was a strong complement. The buns were soft with a satisfying chew, and the accompanying onion butter was mouth-wateringly fragrant. The chicken and raviolini soup was the highlight of the meal; it was deeply flavorful, heartwarming and filling.
Unfortunately, we found the chicken to have been a disappointing experience as it was overcooked and dry. With rôtisserie chicken being the prime focus of the menu, we had higher expectations, especially with all the positive reviews for this restaurant. Admittedly it was also a particularly hot and humid summer evening, and we are willing to give the benefit of the doubt that perhaps weather conditions affected cooking times and temperatures.
The accompanying fries were the perfect poutine fries; cooked dark enough for the potato to taste sweet. The gravy was well-spiced with a hit of what I assume is ginger. The unlimited coleslaw was fresh and creamy.
The service were incredibly smooth, professional and highly efficient, and we were made to feel very welcomed and well-accommodated.
Overall, we enjoyed our experience at Rôtisserie La Lune for the most part. We were disappointed that the chicken was overcooked and dry, but perhaps it was a bad day. We look forward to coming back, perhaps during the colder seasons, to have an experience that hopefully better reflects what they have to offer.
What a great experience from start to finish. We were greeted by a very nice host who offered us the option of sitting indoors or out. We selected indoors and were seated in a cute corner of the bar. We had a reservation. Good thing because restaurant was full. Families, couples and friends.
Our waiter was prompt and super nice. The menu was only in French. He was patient with us, explained everything and within 10 minutes we were enjoying delicious appetizers and amazing wine. The stuffed chicken wings and cucumber salad is a must try. The speciality here is roasted chicken. Sounds boring, it is anything but. We shared a half chicken, fries and a salad. It was a lot of food. We ate almost all of it. Perfectly seasoned and moist. Salad and fries were equally delicious. We finished with a piece of carrot cake that is a specialty. It was delicious. We were too full to finish.
We highly recommend even though we are staying close to the center of Montreal and this is about a 25 minute drive away. It is worth the drive. We have a list of places we plan to eat. If we get a chance we will go back before we leave. We woke up talking about how very delicious the chicken is and how good the service! I would be remiss if I did not mention how nice the ambience is. Very well done and unassuming. Perfect for family dining with kids or a first date!
Want some of the best chicken of your life? This is the spot. The skin has a crisp I've never encountered anywhere else, the gravy was delectable, and the food overall was a solid five stars.
One thing I'd love to see on the menu: curds on those fries. The gravy is too good not to.
No AC, so keep that in mind in summer. Bar seating is essentially inside the kitchen. Respect to the chefs.
We'd been at another award-winning bar earlier in the night and they asked us to bring a treat over for the bar staff here. The team loved it, and we ended up trading recommendations on some of the best spots in the city. Everything was flawless until the sommelier got involved. She was knowledgeable but cold. We ordered an expensive bottle of wine and were finishing dinner incredibly happy, and then our server, who had been fantastic all night, offered us an aperitif on the house. She stepped in out of nowhere and blocked it. That left a sour taste after spending hundreds of dollars, having a dessert drink pulled at the end. I don't know her official title, but she killed the vibe on the way out. We didn't run into anything like this anywhere else in Montreal.
