Somssi

Absolutely loved our dinner at Somssi — so much so that we booked a second reservation on our way out from our first. The menu is varied and creative without being overwhelming. It was hard to choose standouts from the bronzino, olive oil cake, cabbage & crab, ragu with mustard kimchi, potato (potato, potato), and tuna we ordered. The plate of pickles were an unexpectedly excellent treat. The service was also particularly warm and inviting. We’ll be back — and soon!

Overall, a fine dining experience. Some of the highlights were the polenta bread from shewolf bakery, which is a New York local bakery, two types of bread were served the polenta one was a lot better than the sourdough because it was served warm and I just generally liked the taste better. Spaghetti with raku and kimchi was interesting. Definitely something that you could cook at home easily but it tasted good and also the curry rice with the mushrooms that was really interesting as well. We generally enjoyed that dish. Beef tongue was interesting. That consistency was different depending on which part of the tongue you were eating. The mutton chops were OK as well, but it didn’t really stand out or justify the price. The cabbage with crab and eggs was just OK as well. It’s like very interesting very Asian in terms of flavor profile, but not the most tasty thing. Menu was small so if you came with 3 to 4 people, you could easily get the entire menu

Such a wonderful experience from start to finish. The hospitality was warm and genuine, the dishes were delicious and unique, and the wine and cocktails were so thoughtfully balanced. Special shoutout to the zero-proof buckwheat cobbler - absolutely incredible. The knowledgeable and passionate staff plus comfortable ambiance tied everything together perfectly. Already looking forward to returning!

I’ve been exploring a lot of restaurants lately, and Somssi was easily one of the most satisfying and memorable meals I’ve had in a long time. First of all, the chicken liver pâté is unbelievable. The chef mentioned that the chicken they source is incredibly fresh, and you can genuinely taste it. The flavor is so rich and clean — spread it on the bread and it’s honestly one of the best bites on the menu. Highly recommend. Another must-order is the fries. Seasoning is ridiculously addictive. One of those dishes you keep reaching for even when you’re full. And then… the mustard leaf kimchi pasta. You absolutely HAVE to order this. Seriously. The balance of flavors is insane. It’s one of those dishes that makes you want to come back just for that single plate alone. Somssi has a lot of creative and playful dishes, but “Potato Potato Potato” might be the best example of their fun approach to food. Mashed potato wrapped in potato starch, then wrapped again in potato and fried — such a clever idea, but more importantly, incredibly delicious. My second favorite was actually the steak. I didn’t expect much because steak is something you can get anywhere, but again, Somssi approached it differently. The pepper sauce was absolutely insane, and the stir-fried vegetables on the side (slightly reminiscent of gochu japchae) paired with the steak perfectly. For dessert, the yuga-flavored ice cream was something I’ve genuinely never had before, and it was ridiculously good. Such a refreshing and satisfying way to end the meal. What I loved most was that everyone at the table had a different “favorite dish,” which says a lot about the consistency and quality of the menu overall. One friend mentioned how well Somssi uses acidity throughout the meal — even when you’re full, the food somehow keeps feeling exciting and easy to continue eating. There are honestly so many things worth praising here, but I highly recommend exploring the menu for yourself and trying as much as possible. I can already tell I’m going to be a regular
