Located near Berczy Park, Sukhothai is a Thai restaurant with delicious food, and service that can be hit or miss. The layout supports a moderate dinner service with a dedicated takeout and pickup zone in the centre, and the overall ambiance is clean. Note, this location sits on the second floor, which is not accessible-friendly for customers with mobility needs.
The menu was fairly straightforward, except for dessert, which you would need to ask the staff about. The value was a tad let down with the volume to price, but it is expected for this area. During our visit, we ordered calamari, Tom Yung Kung (meal with rice) and the Ganeng Panang. The Tom Yung Kung was tasty, had a spicy base profile and rice. The Ganeng Panang was well-seasoned and presented in a boat plate and rice on the side. The calamari was well seasoned and paired nicely with sauces designed for dipping.
In terms of service and building logistics, the initial impression was mixed. The staff appeared to be split into defined roles, but our experience suggested room for improvement in attentiveness and efficiency during busier periods. An older female staff member came across as unfriendly and did not want to help our group during the dining experience, which contrasted with other team members who seemed more service-focused. Booking ahead for a group of nine was challenging over the phone, with the impression that staff preferred not to consolidate smaller tables into a larger seating arrangement or trust that the group was coming at all. The restaurant also imposes automatic gratuities for groups, ranging from 15% for 6–9 diners to 20% for 10 or more, and the policy is listed on the menu cover rather than clearly explained by staff. Payment options include debit and credit; cash is not accepted.
If you are looking for exceptional Thai food in Downtown, Sukho Thai is the place to be. The Gaeng Panamg was incredibly flavorful, and the beef simply melted in our mouths. We also tried the Green Curry, which was absolutely delicious. To balance the meal, we had the Mango Salad- it was perfectly crunchy with an expert balance of sweet and sour notes. To top it off, the vibrant and pleasant ambiance makes the whole dining experience fantastic. Highly recommend.
The Khao Soi was honestly average — not bad, but not something I’d go back for. On the other hand, the Pad Kee Mao was amazing. Super flavourful, well-balanced, and easily the standout dish of the meal.
The ambience is definitely a plus. The space feels warm, lively, and perfect for a casual dine-in experience or a relaxed catch-up. However, the service could use some improvement. There was quite a bit of waiting at the table, which took away from the overall experience, especially when the place wasn’t overly packed.
Amazing from the moment you walk in. The restaurant has a really nice atmosphere with friendly staff that immediately came to seat us. There is a large variety of options of both food and drinks.
All dishes we ordered were very flavorful and delicious. Portion sizes were large and very good quality for price.
I would definitely recommend!
A very nice restaurant serving good quality Thai Food. The restaurant is located on the eastern end of Downtown Toronto, in a nice neighborhood. The restaurant is located on the mezzanine floor accessible by stairs only. The restaurant gets quite busy and staff behavior can vary. A female staff was rude upon entrance, while the actual serving staff was amazingly nice, respectful, helped with placing the order, and served with a smile. The meat being served at this restaurant is Halal. The food is amazing, they have authentic flavors yet not over powering. The spice levels can be adjusted at the time of placing order. The restaurant was super busy but serving time was fast. The place is busy so gets loud at times. Various seating options available at different levels within the restaurant. The menu is also straightforward and descriptive. Paid Parking is available in the area and is slightly difficult to find. Overall highly recommended for their food.
