Timberyard was one of the highlights of our trip to Edinburgh. The atmosphere is warm, beautiful, and inviting, making it the perfect place for a special dinner.
The food was outstanding! Every course was thoughtfully prepared, beautifully presented, and absolutely delicious. You can really tell how much care goes into every dish.
What made the experience even better was the staff. Everyone was so welcoming, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about what they do, which made the entire evening feel special.
We also had one guest that had some dietary restrictions, and they were insanely accommodating.
An unforgettable dining experience from start to finish. We can't wait to come back!
Timberyard – An Unforgettable
We snagged a last-minute table late in the evening, expecting a quick bite instead of dinner – what we got was hands-down one of the best dining experiences of our lives.
We went for the 4-course tasting menu paired with the wine package. The opening cocktails were masterful reimaginings of classic recipes – truly inventive, perfectly balanced, and executed with real skill.
The menu itself was outstanding: thoughtful, seasonal, ingredient-driven dishes that let the produce shine while delivering bold, satisfying flavours. Even as someone who’s not usually a fan of natural wines, the wine pairing worked beautifully – well-chosen, complementary, and never overpowering.
We extended the evening with a cheese course and perfectly matched drinks to finish – a lovely touch that rounded everything off perfectly.
The service was exceptional – warm, knowledgeable, attentive without being intrusive. This level of hospitality deserves more than one star; it’s genuinely world-class.
Timberyard already holds one Michelin star (and rightfully so), but if the inspectors are listening: the overall experience here is easily two-star territory. The combination of style, genuine relaxed authenticity, technical precision, and top-tier quality makes it feel like world-class fine dining.
Yes, it’s pricey – but for this level of execution, atmosphere, and sheer enjoyment, it’s absolutely worth every penny. A must-visit in Edinburgh. Highly, highly recommended!

Solid Service, But the Kitchen and Bar Missed the Mark
Timberyard | Edinburgh, Scotland
We arrived a few minutes before lunch service and waited outside the large red doors until they opened. A kind woman greeted us and led us to our table, and our order was taken shortly after. While the atmosphere is great, the technical side of the meal didn't quite live up to the setting.
The Breakdown:
Service & Staff: This was the highlight. Every employee we dealt with was professional, courteous, and very helpful. The front-of-house team really knows what they’re doing.
The Bar: My partner ordered a cocktail, but it was a letdown. It was packed with so much crushed ice that the drink watered down almost immediately. He didn't feel any alcohol in it at all, and the flavor just wasn't there.
The Food: * The prawns were tasty, but they were a struggle to eat.
My partner enjoyed his main course, but mine was a miss. I found the texture of the radicchio didn't work with the calamari at all, and the sauce really didn't pull the dish together.
Dessert was perfectly fine, but looking back, nothing about the meal stands out for the right reasons.
The Verdict:
The staff is excellent and the space is beautiful, but the food and drinks just didn't hit the level I expected. It was a decent experience, but not a memorable one.

Visited for my belated 40th birthday. The atmosphere was refined yet relaxed, and we were given the option to sit outside as it was lovely and warm. The service was amazing, we were attended to by a range of different waiters ensuring that we had everything we needed, telling us about each course, the drinks, where the ingredients came from etc, while also being so truly lovely and friendly - it was a truly wonderful meal. The flavours were absolutely exquisite, the best meal I have ever eaten. We opted for the soft drinks pairing and it was incredible, so much thought and love had been infused into every drink and accompanying dish.
We opted for the pescatarian summer tasting menu and it was divine. We were very full afterwards (having opted for the optional lobster course to share, a cheese board selection, and being presented with a small birthday cake which was so lovely!)
The relaxed atmosphere and dress code makes this establishment so much more accessible than other Michelin star restaurants while still being a truly special destination.
The only negative of the evening was that the staff allowed a lady to smoke in the tiny outside area right next to us eating. She also talked loudly on her mobile phone which ruined the atmosphere somewhat while we inhaled second hand smoke with our rather expensive meal. The lady came outside and smoked and talked on the phone 4 or 5 times throughout our meal.

One star Michelin resturant, located in old Edinburg. The location is very suggestive, warm and caratheristic. We tried 2 full tasting menu, 1 with vegetarian courses.
Primary ingredients were excellent, some peculiar combination like the dessert but the food was very good at all. The vegetarian option was great. Maybe the full menu is overfill, because at the end you are very full and don’t have any space left for the last courses.
The staff was friendly and kind.
The bill was a little bit too high for a menu without wine.
