We stopped by on our way home after running some errands in the city. We ordered the Sanuki udon and Himokawa udon, and my son said it was the best udon he’d ever had!
The seafood kakiage was generous in size, but it had only 3–4 pieces of seafood that we could actually identify, with a lot more onion than expected.
That said, everything was delicious overall, so it’s still a well-deserved 5 stars ⭐️
Tried their speciality of Himokawa udon (flat, wide and large) and it was great! Very soft, silky and slight bounce to it. I had their beef curry dipping udon, it had a good amount of meat and the sauce very tasty. We also trie the sukiyaki udon but found it was too sweet and the onset egg was also overcooked so it didn’t have that runny texture.
Service was ok but we noticed two tables had been served before us even though we had sat down and ordered before them. Restaurant was clean, bathroom is available but outside the restaurant.

If you love Japanese food,I would recommend you to try this place 😊
They offer two types of udon! The viral wide udon - Himokawa and the chewy udon - sanuki.
I really enjoyed their wide udon, very silky and smooth to enjoy! When you deep into the Wagyu mapo tofu, they really taste well together!
I look forward to my next visit!
Save this for later🍀
Even though we missed out on the limited Himokawa Udon (they only make 60 a day!), we still had a great meal.
I ordered the Curry Beef Udon and the Beef Udon. The flavours are exactly what you expect from a good udon place—classic, tasty, and nothing too complicated.
It’s not full of surprises, and while it wasn't the fancy wide noodles we planned for, the standard udon was still very good. It’s a solid, comforting bowl of noodles that hits the spot.
A great place for a Japanese meal—just come early if you want the special items!
Yamamoto Udon on Bourke Street absolutely hit the sweet-spot between casual lunch comfort and proper Japanese craftsmanship. Nestled at Shop 12/108 Bourke St, the vibe is sleek and perfect for that spontaneous noodle fix in the city.
Walking in the first thing I noticed: the handmade noodles. They roll out two styles — the classic bouncy square-cut Sanuki and the ultra-wide, silk-smooth Himokawa .
We went for both because, why not? It came dressed beautifully in a delicate broth, with toppings that felt thoughtful (and Instagram-worthy). The texture: top-tier. The flavour: yup, you can tell the noodle was made with care.
