Best Times to Visit
Reservations are highly recommended, especially for weekend visits, as the restaurant can have long queues. Weekday lunches might be slightly less crowded. If sensitive to heat, avoid seating directly by the open kitchen during warmer months.
This restaurant had been on my list for quite some time, and since it’s almost impossible to get a table, I was especially excited to finally try it. I had mentioned in advance that my friend was eight months pregnant, so I was slightly concerned about the seating, and unfortunately, even I didn’t find the high chairs particularly comfortable. We did, however, get amazing seats overlooking the kitchen, which was fun to watch. That said, on a 35-degree day, sitting right by the open kitchen became extremely hot and sweaty, and we ended up eating quicker and leaving sooner than planned. It’s probably not the most comfortable spot during summer.
The staff, however, were outstanding, attentive, friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely helpful throughout the evening. They guided us through the menu beautifully, although I would say they encouraged us to order more than I personally think was necessary, especially considering how rich the dishes are.
We started with the spicy feta dip, hummus, borani and with two flatbreads. Every single dish was packed with flavour, beautifully presented, incredibly fresh, and absolutely delicious. The carbonara flatbread was another standout, rich, indulgent, and honestly something I could happily eat for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The chicken thigh was perfectly cooked: juicy, full of flavour, and simply excellent.
The fava was slightly underwhelming for our taste, although that likely comes down to personal preference. We then shared the lamb souvla as a main, which ended up being far too much food. I also felt the dish was missing a bit of freshness, perhaps a simple salad alongside it would have balanced everything nicely.
Overall, it was still a really great dining experience. I would happily return, everything else was top-notch.
We ordered the Sesame Seed Koulouri Pita, Hummus Masabacha with Hot Crisps, Chard Borani, Heritage Tomato, Watermelon, Feta & Mint Saláta, Lamb Kebab, Pork Souvlaki, Slow-Grilled Chicken Thigh, the Cime di Rapa, Fonduta & Crispy Kale Flatbread, and the Spicy Pork Flatbread.
Overall, the food reminded us of Lagana, but both of us actually preferred Agora. The dishes felt more refined overall, with better execution, more precise cooking, and well-balanced flavours.
Both dips were enjoyable. The Chard Borani was light and refreshing, while the Hummus Masabacha, topped with whole chickpeas and hot crisps, offered a nice contrast in texture. The Sesame Seed Koulouri Pita arrived warm, fluffy, and was perfect for scooping up both dips.
I also really enjoyed the Heritage Tomato, Watermelon, Feta & Mint Saláta. It’s a simple dish, but fresh, refreshing, and personally one of my favourites.
Both flatbreads were highlights. I really liked the concept of using the same flatbread base with different toppings—it almost felt like choosing between different mini pizzas. If I were to come back, I’d want to try some of the other topping combinations. The Cime di Rapa, Fonduta & Crispy Kale Flatbread had a lovely charred flavour from the kale, while the Spicy Pork Flatbread wasn’t particularly spicy. Instead, it had a sweet, savoury flavour that, for some reason, reminded me of the Chinese sausage used in clay pot rice.
The Slow-Grilled Chicken Thigh was another standout and, after trying similar dishes at both Lagana and Nina, I thought Agora’s version was the best. I wouldn’t say it’s worth making the trip just for the chicken thigh alone, but it was noticeably better than the others. The only slight disappointment was the Lamb Kebab, which we found a little dry.

Had a fantastic meal at AGORA Souvla Bar. The crispy pork was absolutely delicious, wonderfully golden and crunchy on the outside, while remaining tender and juicy inside. The mackerel was another highlight and one of my favourite dishes of the meal: beautifully grilled, full of flavour and with a lovely smoky richness.
The grilled mushrooms were also excellent. They had a great meaty texture, and the sauce was so unique… rich, savoury and incredibly moreish. I also really enjoyed the homemade lemonade, which was fresh, refreshing and the perfect accompaniment to the food.

The foood was absolutely good. The chicken thighs were a must try as they packed in a bunch of flavours and extremely juicy. The onions and the pita bread were also a must recommend along with their dips. The lamb was just alright. The host was absolutely fantastic who helped us with selections and portion size and they did also help us to accomodate with the older people in our group.
Will definitely visit this place in Borough market again.
