Key Information
Bonheur by Matt Abé is a fine-dining restaurant in London's Mayfair, offering an ingredient-led, classically rooted, yet modern culinary experience. It is Chef Matt Abé's new solo venture, designed to inspire contentment through refined, seasonal dishes. The restaurant features a lovely room and lighting, with some tables offering a view into the kitchen.
Customers praise the food as superb, impressive, refined, and deserving of its Michelin stars, with some even suggesting it's three-star worthy. Highlights include the beef and the signature chocolate cake. However, common criticisms revolve around the service, which some found underwhelming and not consistently up to Michelin two-star standards (e.g., feeling rushed, quiet staff, sommelier issues). The non-alcoholic drink options were noted as limited and poor, and the wine pairings sometimes disappointing. The music choice, often mainstream pop, was also frequently mentioned as being out of place for a fine-dining setting.
Additional Details
Bonheur by Matt Abé is located at 43 Upper Brook Street in London. The restaurant offers various tasting menus, including the 'Dream menu' and 'Drama menu', alongside an à la carte option. Despite a website mention of 'Opening autumn 2025', customer reviews from recent months confirm it is currently operational.
As a fine-dining establishment, reservations are highly recommended, especially for dinner. No specific peak times or ideal days were mentioned, but booking in advance is advisable.

We had dinner here last night and the food was amazing! The beef dishes (tartar and main was excellent). My partners favorite was the lobster with a delicious rich sauce and the dessert was a standout. Service was excellent with very friendly non-pretentious staff. My favorite thing was that I can see the “dream” tasting menu was well thought through from start to finish. I was so full by the time I got to the main, but salad side made the dish so refreshing and the dessert wasn’t also light I couldn’t stop eating it. Thank you team! We still have our petit fours to dig into today!
What an amazing restaurant serving the finest dishes that I have eaten in years. Set within the former home of Le Gavroche, Bonheur certainly is on par. The quality of the tasting menu was outstanding with each plate a work of art and amazing flavours. The restaurant was bright and airy and the staff were brilliant, friendly and up for a chat. Well done Matt Abe.
I tried the Dream menu and the food was strong overall. The dishes were well balanced and nicely layered. The beef was excellent and the signature chocolate cake was easily the highlight, probably my favourite dessert so far this year.
Service felt a bit underwhelming for a Michelin two star though. The drinks were the biggest issue for me! I was driving so couldn’t drink, but the non alcohol options were surprisingly limited. Only two mocktails and both were quite poor, otherwise it was basically fizzy drinks. For a restaurant at this level I would expect a proper non alcohol pairing.
The room and lighting are lovely, but the music felt a bit out of place. It sounded like a Spotify UK Top 50 playlist, Coldplay, Adele, Harry Styles and so on, which didn’t quite match the setting.
I might come back once they’ve been open a bit longer and see how it develops.
Superb food, the favours and presentation was right up there with the best I have eaten. Service was not really up to Michelin star scratch, from the start we felt rushed to be seated despite the restaurant being less than half full. Sommelier also friendly but didn’t hit the target with the first white and hadn’t opened the reds to let them breathe. Picky details but the restaurant is two stars. Shame as the food was incredible.
Matt Abe and his team are operating at a level that feels undeniably three-star worthy.
In my experience, the restaurant has risen above many establishments that already hold the highest accolades. Every detail, from technique to execution, reflects a maturity and confidence that only comes from a kitchen truly at the top of its craft. The cooking shows clarity of vision, precision, and restraint, allowing exceptional ingredients to speak while still delivering moments of genuine creativity.
What stands out most is consistency. Course after course, the experience feels intentional, balanced, and deeply refined. Having had the privilege to visit multiple three-star restaurants, I can honestly say this experience belongs in that conversation, and in several ways surpasses it.
If Michelin is looking for sustained excellence, identity, and a meal worth traveling for, Matt Abe and his team have already arrived.
