✨️🇧🇩 food by RotiMami, Rezma Rahman - was an emotional and tantalising experience. It was so emotional, an aunty cried! The Sylheti Bengali representation throughout the menu was a cross generational nostalgic journey. Her take on home and village classics like shutki (fermented dried fish paste) to tenga (citrusy fishy tomato soup) to dim bhuna (curried egg)..and so much more; were honest and innovative and not in a pretentious way. I mean the OYSTER, like, I dont even like oysters! But she managed to somehow make the oyster taste nostalgic and left me wanting more! How!?
This was an authentically classy plating of our heritage from our mothers and aunties and grandma's hands - reminding YOU ALL that we and this food is NOT Indian, it is Bangalee from the land called Bangladesh.
Cheers to the team at Carousel for delivering the food with such care and appreciation.
We went to Carousel for Mama Roti’s tasting menu with high expectations but unfortunately it was a real disappointment.
The chef may have built a strong following on Instagram, but the food simply didn’t justify the reputation. It was bland, underseasoned, and lacked both colour and flavour. For Indian-inspired cuisine, it was surprisingly uninspiring, and none of the dishes were memorable or exciting.
We left underwhelmed, which is a real shame because we love Carousel’s concept. However, this residency felt far below the standard we’d expect from Carousel, and after this experience, we’ll be hesitant to come back.
Visited the incredible Carousel last night, where the guest chef was Celine Pham. Her dishes were packed with amazing flavour and beautifully presented. We enjoyed a seven-course tasting menu, each course featuring a unique fusion of Vietnamese and French influences.
The service was outstanding — the staff were knowledgeable and provided great insight into both the food and the wine pairings. The cocktails were another standout highlight of the evening.
Highly recommend.
It's great to have a place in London that you can rely on always being excellent and Carousel is one of those for me. Everyone loves the guest chefs, obviously, but the main restaurant also deserves a shoutout. If you're looking for an indulgent lunch I think their set menu can't be beaten.
Sitting by the French doors gives you a great spot to people watch, too!
We visited Ashcombe estate this weekend and I must say the carousel team were absolutely amazing. From the friendly service to the delicious food. A big shout out to the chef who provided dinner on our first night stay, I think his name was Sam (very tall Aussie). The food was so wonderful in its simplicity and of course delicious. The seasoning and sauces that were served with the veggies were especially perfect and don’t even get me started on the burnt butter and bread. I could have just lived on that for the rest of my days!
The dinner provided by the guest chef was so special and an evening to remember. Thanks again to the entire team and Rebecca for everything.
