Last updated: 12/31/2025, 6:23:04 AM
Key Information
A casual self-service pasta bar by the chef of Tometomato, featuring an open kitchen and outdoor seating near Park HaMesila.
Customer Perception
Highly polarized: many praise the 'al dente' fresh pasta and vibe, but others complain of 1-hour wait times, salty dishes, and the lack of table service.
Additional Details
The restaurant operates on a strict self-service model where customers order at the counter, pick up their own drinks, and return their own dishes. Note: They reportedly do not accept 200 NIS bills.
Amazing Italian food.
Delicious pasta/spaghetti, great wine also more other drinks, the dessert are so good open space sitting.
We always go with family and friends on visits in Israel 🇮🇱.
Thanks so much for the hospitality, keep up with the good work and the best food in TLV.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any photos of the pastas I had here.
Lava is in a great location and the concept is interesting, but I don’t think it works particularly well during peak hours. The place gets busy quickly, and the experience feels a bit stretched.
The service is INCREDIBLY handsome, which deserves a special mention.
As for the food, taste is personal, and to my taste the pasta was just fine. It felt a little dry and lacked flavor, nothing bad, but nothing I would specifically come back for either. The drinks are also fine, not great.
What I do like about Lava is that it’s a pleasant place to meet friends, catch up, and do a bit of people-watching in between conversations.
I once attempted to go on a date here. It was quite pathetic, partly because neither of us enjoyed the food very much, and partly because we weren’t a particularly good match for each other. My advice: come here with someone you already know you like.
One thing that slightly puts me off is seeing the owner’s bitter and sarcastic replies to some reviews. It affects the overall vibe more than expected.
That said, the media presence is immaculate. The branding, photos, and aesthetics are all completely on point.

The most amazing pasta I’ve ever had. So tasty and also so unique! Nothing like I’ve ever had in Italian places before.
The wait is very long but definitely worth it, same for the unusual seating on the street. It’s definitely a vibe but not everyone’s cup of tea.
It’s a must if you’re around the area.

The chef with the arm tattoo on his right forearm was picking his nose while having the other hand in his pants. This was followed by a rude hand-off of my food.
We asked if they could turn the fans on as the group I was with was very hot and sweaty, and they replied "we don't have electricity" as we see the lights on and food being made in the background 🥲.
they attempted to dehydrate us by refusing to fill the water leaving me and my fellow friends relatively parched😵 This was made exponentially worse by the fact that my food took nearly an hour to arrive.

A place that doesn’t have enough electricity, or keeps having power failures, should probably close. But not this place.
They’ll make people stand in a long line with no menu available, because you have to choose your dishes on a single ordering machine and that alone takes forever.
Then, in the heat of the alley, the fans won’t be working. The kitchen will forget your order, and when you ask about it, they’ll be rude. One staff member even told a tourist, “Sit at your table until I call you,” while she was left confused until an Israeli customer stepped in to help her get her food.
Which, by the way, isn’t even served to the table. The service is absolutely dreadful, and the pasta is mediocre at best.
A catastrophic dining experience and some of the worst service I’ve encountered.
