My husband and I had our first dinner in Greece at Line, and it immediately set the bar incredibly high for the rest of our trip. The hospitality was exceptionally warm, knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and genuinely welcoming from start to finish.
It’s easy to see why Line continues earning international recognition among the world’s best bars. Every recommendation was outstanding - especially the fried cauliflower with strawberry miso and lacto-fermented peach slices was wildly creative while still being genuinely delicious. Also, don’t skip the potato wedges with the warm cheesy mayo, as these were in my top 5 best fried potatoes I’ve ever had. Finally, the beef carpaccio with marinated beet greens and a creamy, chopped pickle sauce was absolutely ridiculous — easily my husband’s favorite dish of the trip so far.
Enough of the food, though… they ARE a bar after all. As someone drinking spiritfree cocktails, I felt like my own beverage experience was just as elevated and carefully crafted as the alcoholic menu, which is surprisingly rare even at highly acclaimed bars.
The team also took extra time to dig through their back-stock of merch to find the perfect hoodies to bring home from Greece, which made the whole experience feel even more special and memorable. Line knows how to go above and beyond!
If you’re traveling through Athens and care about food, cocktails, fermentation, and/or exceptional hospitality, make this a priority stop. They’re open far more hours than they’re closed, so you really have no excuse!!!
Line is currently the highest-ranked bar in Athens, sitting at No. 8 on the World’s 50 Best Bars list. Although it is slightly removed from the city centre, it is still within walking distance of the Acropolis. More than just a cocktail bar, it operates throughout the day as a café and brunch spot. I visited on a sunny Saturday afternoon and chose a table in the spacious courtyard rather than the equally attractive interior. After starting with a coffee, I sampled all three of the venue’s house-produced grapeless wines—made from honey, apple and pomegranate—ultimately settling on the pomegranate, which was my favourite. I rounded off the visit with a Penicillin Highball.
Line Athens is an essential stop for anyone serious about cocktails!
The drinks are truly wonderful and highly inventive, focusing on unique flavors and house-made ferments (definitely try a cocktail with their "Why-ins"!).
What made the experience even better was the friendly staff—they are welcoming, knowledgeable, and passionate about their craft.
Fantastic atmosphere and world-class mixology. Go for the drinks, stay for the service! A must-visit bar!
δέος που προκαλεί!!
I love how creative their cocktails are. Mine had a ball made of different types of Greek cheese and you had to give it a bite and then take a sip of the cocktail, 10/10.
Their olives and potato wedges were supreme. I would definitely come back!
I recommend making a reservation beforehand :)
