I tried the traditional Pie & Mash experience, and from the moment I sat down, I felt like I had stepped into a scene from a classic British drama or movie from 70’s..The atmosphere is incredibly authentic and gives you a real sense of London’s history.
The menu is wonderfully simple, focusing on what they do best. There are two pie options available: minced beef and vegetarian, served with the traditional mash.
If you’re visiting London as a tourist, I genuinely think this is one of those experiences you should try at least once. It’s a piece of local culture that has survived for generations and offers something very different from the usual tourist attractions.
That said, the food itself wasn’t quite suited to my personal taste. However, that’s entirely subjective, and I’m convinced that for people who enjoy Pie & Mash, this is among the very best places in the category.
One pleasant surprise was the staff. Given the old-school nature of the restaurant, I wasn’t expecting much interaction, but everyone was genuinely friendly, welcoming, and warm.
A must-visit for anyone looking to experience a traditional side of London.
Not many restaurants can boast a legacy of over 130 years. This one does, and you can quite literally taste the history! The food is visually unassuming but is undoubtedly delicious. It's better for first - timers like me because there's an opportunity to create your own palette with every bite or two, until you nail the taste your looking for. Highly recommend using PLENTY of chilli vinegar and pepper. The ladies at the counter were very kind and helpful when I told them it was my first time there. I was perhaps the only person of colour at the time, which made the experience even more unique not just for me, but also for the staff as I don't think they get many Indian/ Asian customers. The interiors are quite dated too, including the benches which are rather upright! Not a critique at all, it actually transports you to a simpler time. It's a must-go, for those who value heritage and simplicity in food. I most certainly will return soon.
Charming and cozy spot with traditional pies and mash. Can't say it's the best I've ever had, but the food is good. The simplicity is part of the experience . Plus the cost is affordable. Interestingly, adding a splash of their chili vinegar changes the flavor of the pie! It's worth visiting but don't expect your taste buds to be blown away.
I really love this place because it’s like being transported back in time. From the tiles on the walls to the furniture and tables - it’s all as it should be.
The lady who appears to run the place is very lovely. She’s friendly and has a warmth that is genuine, even when she’s rushed off her feet. And she’s always busy!
We have recently stopped eating meat so we had the vegan pie and mash, which was delicious. In all honesty the vegan pie is so similar to the meat pie and we were really pleased that we didn’t have to compromise at all. The same care goes into making them and they look just the same! The top crust is really lovely and firm, so I recommend flipping it over in the traditional manner to allow the liquor to moisten the pie. Totally delicious!
I went back for a second helping, which did not surprise the staff at all - happens all the time - but I had trouble making it through the second one. Greedy guts! The food didn’t sit heavily though and I felt properly ready for my monthly walk around London.
If you’re visiting London and want a genuine historical experience then you could not do better. The food is very reasonable in price as well, because that’s the whole point: once you taste it you’ll see why genuine food doesn’t need to be expensive.
Thanks Manze’s - you’re ace!
See you again soon!

If you know about this spot you really dont need to be looking at reviews.
Probably the best pie and mash in london. And the shop is full of history. And for how popular it is there was no problem getting a table. Great experience.
If your a Newb the rules are.
Turn the pie over and cut into the soft side. Always liqour never gravy and the chilli vinegar is a must. Thank me later
