Oorja proves that a restaurant doesn't need an extensive menu when every dish is executed with care and confidence. The selection may be relatively concise, but there's more than enough on offer to showcase the kitchen's strengths.
I started with the samosa, which was enjoyable and set the tone nicely, but the undisputed star of the evening was the Railway Curry. It was refreshing to be served lamb still attached to the bone, delivering a depth and richness of flavour that simply can't be replicated otherwise. A few skin-on potatoes added welcome texture and substance, feeling like a thoughtful addition rather than a cost-saving measure.
The naan was excellent, light, airy and clearly made in-house, with the kind of texture and freshness that elevates any curry experience.
Service throughout the evening was attentive, friendly and genuinely helpful especially Lovely who was a delight. The team seemed to take real pride in ensuring guests enjoyed their meal, and there was a sense that everyone wanted to please without being overbearing.
One particularly clever touch was the service system. Rather than trying to catch the eye of a busy server, you simply tap the table lamp when you need assistance. It's an elegant solution that enhances the dining experience and allows service to be responsive without constant interruptions.
The wine list leans towards New World selections, making it easy to find a pairing for the bold flavours coming from the kitchen. With the Railway Curry, a Shiraz felt like the obvious choice and it complemented the dish perfectly.
To finish, I was presented with a sorbet, which was delicious and served as the ideal palate cleanser after a richly flavoured main course.
What impressed me most is that, for a restaurant located in a tourist district, Oorja could easily rely on its location alone. Instead, it goes the extra mile with its food, service and attention to detail. They don't need to try this hard, but I'm very glad they do. Highly recommended.
Came here on a Saturday night. The restaurant was very busy without being overwhelming.
We ordered starters, mains and desserts. There’s a lamp on each table. When you want to order something, you tap the lamp which changes the colour and attracts the waiters attention. Such a simple idea, but stops you constantly looking around to get the staff’s attention.
The food was good and flavoursome. We particularly liked the crispy potato cakes and aubergine dishes. There’s main dishes were disappointing in size, especially for the price.
The desserts were delicious - the icecream was amazing. The brûlée was subtle flavouring but good.
We really enjoyed our time here and will try some other dishes we didn’t get to have. Will definitely come back and try again.
This establishment was top teir. And there was a very kind lady named “Lovely” that guided us through the whole experience. And the name is ironic because the entirety of the meal was lovely within. The food was orgasmic, and the drink euphoric. The only bad review that I can give is that you will be left with a hard 🐔 and a satiated pallet. On a more serious note, this was a very professional place with professional people. 10/10 recommend.
Oorja is a Great find on Shaftsbury Avenue, just outside Seven Dials- this is a Fantastic spot to try for truly wonderful Indian food. We stopped in for Lunch on a Saturday - it was busy but not overly so, with a a nice mix of locals, many of them Indian, which is always a good sign for local restaurants.
We tried several apps, that were all delicious, and presented wonderfully. All of the food was freshly prepared with great flavour- their Butter chicken was amazing , with a wonderful creamy sauce that paired very well with both Basmati rice and Naan. Desert was nice and light, with a selection of Sorbets. Staff was all extremely friendly and accommodating. Overall a wonderful dining experience. If you are in the Covent Garden/Seven Dials area, be sure to Try Oorja for a meal !!!
The service was amazing right from walking in and you could just smell how good the food was already!
We had tried the paneer rolls (definitely a favourite), chilli chicken, chickpea curry and shrimp curry all of which were unreal.
Have to mention the cocktail ‘kesariya’ was incredible🥂
Had a really great time here and will be back to try more, thank you!
