Additional Details
The restaurant has two locations in Seattle: one at Pike Place Market and another at Pacific Place. They offer online ordering for pickup.
If you’re visiting Seattle, a stop at Pike Place Market is a must, and while you’re there, Pike Place Chowder should definitely be on your list. It’s located right in the heart of one of the city’s most iconic and vibrant tourist destinations, making it the perfect place to enjoy a great meal while exploring the market.
We decided to come because of its outstanding reviews, and it completely exceeded our expectations. We tried the crab chowder as well as the crab and shrimp chowder, and both were incredibly rich, creamy, and full of fresh seafood. Every spoonful was packed with flavor and tasted homemade.
We also ordered the lobster rolls and the crab roll, and they were just as impressive. The seafood tasted fresh, the bread was perfectly toasted, and the balance of flavors was outstanding. You can really tell they focus on using high-quality ingredients, and that’s what makes every dish stand out.
One thing to know before you go is that there’s almost always a long line. However, after tasting the food, it’s easy to understand why so many people are willing to wait. The service moved efficiently despite the crowd, and the quality of the food made the wait completely worthwhile.
If you love seafood, this is one of those places you shouldn’t miss when visiting Seattle. We would absolutely come back.
This place is tucked into a narrow corner that always seems busy but not chaotic. I tried the New England clam chowder, smoked salmon chowder, and a sourdough bread bowl.
The clam chowder is creamy and thick with soft potatoes and clams that blend into the base. The smoked salmon version has a deeper, saltier flavor that stands out more with each spoon. The bread bowl is chewy on the outside and soft inside, soaking up everything in a way that makes it part of the meal instead of just a container.
It’s simple food but it feels right for the weather and the city around it.

8 chowder options sold delicious. It is famous, gets busy but worth the effort. Order take out and pickup can save a ton of time if they are busy. Chowder in bread bowls for the win. Great spot located in an alley at the market.

Visiting Seattle for the second time, but my first time traveling here solo, I came to Pike Place Chowder on Saturday afternoon for a light lunch. I was running the Iron Horse Half Marathon the next morning, so I didn’t want anything too heavy.
I stood in line for almost half an hour, which honestly felt a little ridiculous, but eventually ordered the Seafood Bisque with Pacific cod, Northwest salmon, and Oregon bay shrimp in a creamy tomato broth.
The bisque was pretty good. It came with oyster crackers and a slice of what I believe was sourdough bread. I took everything to a nearby outdoor seating area and ate there.
I’d probably give the bisque itself around a 3.5/5. It was good, but I don’t know if I’d wait half an hour specifically for it again. Still, I’ll round up and give the overall experience 4 stars.
I’d come back if I’m in the area again, but be prepared for the line! 😅
4/5 stars

Tip: if you don’t want to wait in line I recommend just ordering it to-go, and find a spot to eat it. I’d pick 15 mins wait over 45 mins for chowder.
Got the New England Clam Chowder and Lobster Roll, Chowder 10/10, Lobster 6/10 (wish the bread was soft and buttery)
