Key Information
Sirkus Renaa in Oslo is part of a larger 'mathus' (food house) concept, offering a diverse range of culinary experiences including a bakery, pizzeria, patisserie, gelateria, and chocolate factory. It emphasizes genuine craftsmanship and the use of local ingredients, aiming to provide a touch of magic in everyday life. The Oslo location is situated at Harbitz Torg, with another outlet at Aker Brygge.
Customer Perception
Customer perception is mixed. Many praise the tasty Italian pizza, the very tasty and gentle tiramisu, and the overall aesthetically beautiful atmosphere and interior. The service is often described as fast and friendly. However, some customers have experienced issues, particularly with the breakfast plate, citing plain presentation, missing items (like fruit), small portions for the price (325kr), and long wait times. A significant drawback mentioned is the inability to pay with cash and the rejection of American Express cards, leading to stressful payment experiences for some international visitors. The interior has been described as 'a bit tacky' by one reviewer.

Fast service: 5/5
Friendly service: 5/5

Value for money: 4/5
The major disadvantage of the place is that they do not accept cash. My foreign friend's Amex was not accepted either so the experience was rather stressful 🤷
Apart from that, the employees were certain kind and the food was tasty. I found the interior to be a bit tacky, but thos is just personal preference. I think it's perfect for families with children considering what they have on the menu which in addition to breakfast items is pizza and gelato.
Before visiting, we already reviewed the menu online. At the café, there was also a physical menu at the counter, but the breakfast plate had no description included. I politely asked the cashier if drinks were included with the meal. At first she seemed unsure, but eventually confirmed that coffee and juice were included.
A cup of black coffee was served without asking whether I preferred coffee or tea. I politely asked the barista if I could have tea instead, which he kindly arranged. However, the cashier noticed the change and reacted with an expression that made us feel uncomfortable, as if it was our fault for asking.
We waited almost half an hour for the food to arrive. Unfortunately, the breakfast plate was disappointing for the price of 325kr. The presentation looked very plain — just egg, skinke, pancake, bacon, cheese, sourdough bread, and butter on the plate. There were no greens, tomatoes, cucumber, or any garnish to make it look appetizing or balanced. It felt like mostly protein and carbs with little effort in presentation.
After eating about half of the meal, we noticed that the fruit mentioned was missing. I called the attention of the cook when he passed by our table. He apologized and admitted he forgot to include it. The fruit portion that arrived afterward was very small — only a few small pieces of honeydew and some grapes underneath.
Overall, the breakfast plate was poorly presented, not very appealing, and the portion felt small for the price. Hopefully they can improve the plating by adding some greens, tomatoes, or better balance to the dish.
On a positive note, the atmosphere and interior are aesthetically beautiful. Since the café is newly opened, maybe things will improve over time. We may visit again in the future, but probably not anytime soon.

I really hope the bad service is just because it is newly opened because the place is really charming and it’s right in my neighbourhood.
I went there with a friend on on a public holiday afternoon. All the fresh pastries had finished. This is understandable because maybe they were not expecting so many people in their first few days of opening.
We found a table and I went to get a coffee and something to eat. That part of the service was quick as there was no queue. Then I waited for my coffee and waited and waited. There was 1 person making coffee so that was not the most efficient. Then the cash machine broke down so it seemed like the only person who knew how to sort it out was the person who was making coffee. In the meantime, there were about another 3 staff behind the counter who were not doing anything. After about 5 minutes of nobody making coffee the guy who was trying to fix the cash machine told one of his colleagues to make the coffee, which she did.
The tables upstairs were never cleared or cleaned in the whole 3 hours we were there. We cleared ours and cleaned it with a serviette. Someone finally came when we were leaving.
There were plenty of staff around so I think this could be just a matter of coordinating or different staff having a specific area to take care of.
The pistachio cookie and coffee were very good.
I will wait a couple of months before I come back and really hope that things will have improved.

Disappointing :(
The pastries look very inviting, but the taste and quality does not match the look. Raw cardamom buns, and average cinnamon buns for the steep price. Very slow service. Stood in line to order, and had to stand in a new queue to get my regular brewed coffee.
Would like to try the breakfast options or the pizza, but not for those prices.
Went on a rainy day, the doors were wide open so the whole place was freezing. Not good for the pastries standing out. Also a little unhygienic that the pastries are standing out with no cover, while people breath and point at them while waiting for their turn.
