We had such a wonderful experience at The Marine Room! The restaurant is literally right on the beach — during high tide, the waves can actually crash against the windows, which makes the setting pretty unforgettable.
We booked our table about a month and a half in advance, and it was absolutely worth it. The service was exceptional — our waitress was incredibly attentive, professional, and made the whole evening feel special.
We started with the tuna crudo and seasonal vegetables, followed by the swordfish and pistachio-crusted sea bass. Everything was delicious! They also have an impressive wine list — we chose a $72 bottle, one of the more affordable options, and it was actually very good.
Since we were celebrating our anniversary, they surprised us with complimentary glasses of champagne. 🥂 Even though we were already full, we couldn’t resist trying dessert and shared the Mango Bowl — definitely a good decision because it was amazing!
At the end of the evening, they brought us a little candle to blow out together along with two salted caramel chocolates — such a sweet touch.
Beautiful location, excellent service, and genuinely delicious food. Definitely recommend The Marine Room for a special occasion or simply a memorable dinner in San Diego. ❤️
Went to a restaurant by the beach 🏖️ with my good girlfriends 🍴 that we booked online in advance to enjoy a beautiful meal. The atmosphere was absolutely gorgeous 😍, we just booked a little too late in the day. Everyone there was dressed up so beautifully, and we had such a happy and enjoyable time eating together 😃

Went during the high tide event so had the pre-fix menu, was a great experience. Waiting staff were attentive and knowledgeable, food was great. I would say the portions were a bit small for the price but again paying for the experience to watch the waves crash against the windows while having a great live band play music. I will definitely be coming back for their standard menu. I do wish we were able to get seated against the windows, I called ahead to request but was told nothing is guaranteed. Curious how they picked which parties got to sit there. Overall great experience and atmosphere.

After not visiting for quite a while, we came back to celebrate Mother’s Day at The Marine Room — and honestly, this experience completely reminded us why this place has been such a San Diego classic for so many years.
The week before, we stopped by the lounge area and had the lobster bisque, lobster entrée, and spring salad. Everything already felt much better than we remembered from a few years ago, so we decided to return again for Mother’s Day dinner in the main dining room.
We booked a table for six right by the ocean, and the atmosphere was absolutely magical. Mid-April to mid-May is honestly one of the best times to come. Even with the May gray clouds, the sunset becomes even more dramatic — almost like an oil painting over the ocean.
This time, our appetizers included the crudo and the BBQ tart, and both were a huge hit with everyone at the table. The salad dressings were also surprisingly memorable — fresh, balanced, and flavorful. We ordered both the spring salad and the Caesar salad.
For mains, we tried the beef cheek pasta, an Italian-style cheesy risotto, and the ocean catch. The flavors were rich without feeling overwhelming. The wild mushroom side dish was so good that we ended up ordering an extra one for the table.
Dessert was the chocolate pistachio cake, which looked extremely rich at first glance, but was actually perfectly balanced and not overly sweet. Everyone loved it.
We also signed up for their special program, and they kindly surprised us with complimentary chocolates at the end, which made the evening feel even more thoughtful and special.
Beautiful oceanfront setting, elevated food, and one of the most memorable sunset dining experiences in San Diego. Definitely feels like The Marine Room is in a really good place again.

We treated ourselves to a birthday dinner at the Marine Room and the overall experience fell short of our expectations based on what we have heard around town. We arrived perfectly on time for our reservation just to sit around for 15-20 minutes while they prepared our table. The ambiance and views of this restaurant are the highlights. Our appetizers were all pretty tasty. We enjoyed the perfect bite caviar appetizers, lobster bisque, and some fresh oysters. The main courses were where the real disappointment began. Once our steaks had been dropped off, we were never checked on by our server to ensure everything was well. The steaks lacked salt and overall flavor. The lobster was stringy. The birthday dessert brought to us was a stale piece of cake that had probably been sitting in the fridge all week. We would come back for drinks and a view, saving our appetite for elsewhere.
