The InterContinental San Diego is a beautiful hotel, and the staff is generally friendly and welcoming. However, unfortunately, my experience was disappointing when it came to accountability and follow-through.
I specifically requested a mini refrigerator for my baby’s milk and medication. I communicated this request multiple times and even called the hotel several times to follow up, but the refrigerator was never brought to my room. When you’re traveling with a baby and need to properly store milk and medication, this is not a minor inconvenience—it’s something that should have been taken seriously and handled promptly.
We also had breakfast at the restaurant downstairs, and for approximately $140, I honestly expected much better. The food and overall experience were not worth the price. You can easily go somewhere else in San Diego and get a much better breakfast for significantly less.
It’s really unfortunate because the hotel itself is nice, and the staff members we interacted with were friendly. However, a five-star hotel should also deliver five-star service, attention to detail, and accountability when guests make reasonable requests.
Just be aware that while this is marketed as a five-star hotel, my experience did not reflect a five-star level of service. There are plenty of other hotels and restaurants in San Diego where you can receive a better overall experience and value.
I didn't stay at the hotel but did get a chance to dine at their wonderful restaurant Garibaldi. The view was spectacular, especially during sunset seeing the sun go down on the waters. Each dish was excellent with service, by David, being just as amazing. He was attentative, professional, nice to take our photos, and did everything he could to make our entire evening amazing. The manager or similar shared the delight of the lunar eclipse and what time and where might be able to experience it at that location. It was an amazing night, thanks to everyone!

This was such a disappointing trip! I stayed for the weekend of the 4th of July. We stayed from Friday the 3rd to checking out on Monday 6th. It started with problems with my reservation. They said it was handled via email and text but when I arrived I didn't get the room that I wanted. I paid for breakfast for every morning and then was informed it was not allowed to be taken to the room but they do have room service; although the breakfast credits was only for the restaurant. My mom is diabetic and I thought that I had gotten her prepaid breakfast in the room before arrival. Then one of the beds had highlighter or marker on the duvet or comforter. They wrapped it in sheets instead of having duvet covers (not a big deal but something to be noted) which is how we saw it. When I asked for the linens to be changed they left the pillowcases on the windowsill. I was so angry at this point! It seemed like they just didn't care! I am one of their members and I still wasn't happy by the time I left. When I complained to the concierge he didn't take it very seriously at first. He was friendly and he did end up taking some money off of my bill because we didn't use it but frankly I wasn't satisfied by his reactions. He said that was the best he could do. I wanted to feel like this would be changed and that they took these problems seriously. Instead, I left feeling unhappy and unresolved. The main hospitality manager was supposed to come speak with me but she never did. I don't want free stuff or money off I'm pissed that I paid that much to get mediocre a room and hit and miss service. All of the valets and bellmen were all amazing!!! Three of the five people working the front desk were awesome and so kind, but that is exactly the problem. I thought I was getting a wonderful room, facing the Bay, in one of the nicest hotels in the area with everything prepaid and already taken care of. Instead, my entire trip was figuring out the different ways things weren't the way I was expecting and how to deal with it. I was dealing with issues the whole weekend and didn't feel like I really got to relax. I will never stay there again! I feel sort of bad because there were some very kind and thoughtful people working there but the ratio was not enough! It was very disappointing but beautiful!

We came into the hotel to dine in at Garibaldi. This was a hidden gem and satisfied our needs. We had the happy hour oysters, the catch of the day, and their dessert. Every plate was better than the last. And to top it all off, David was a pleasure. His calm demeanor never made us felt rushed and made us feel welcomed. His recommendation of the pistachio cheesecake was spot on. I am definitely returning.

We had a wonderful stay at the InterContinental, and a big part of that was thanks to Jose at the front desk. From the moment we checked in, he was incredibly warm, welcoming, and genuinely hospitable. He took the time to make us feel valued as guests and went above and beyond to ensure we had a great experience.
Jose was kind enough to upgrade us to a nicer room, which made our stay even more enjoyable, but what stood out most was his friendly attitude and exceptional customer service. It’s rare to meet someone who is so personable and truly cares about making guests feel at home.
Thank you, Jose, for your outstanding hospitality. We had a fantastic stay and look forward to coming back!
