We went to Tamil Crown for their desi take on Sunday roast. Everything was fabulous. Had delicious Tamil cuisine food, service was prompt, ppl were v courteous and overall it was a nice experience. We ordered two mocktails, okra fries, my husband had lamb roast and I had Veg roast. For dessert we had Shrikhand. Every item tasted delicious. I wish they could have added some ‘Roast’ or veg grilled dish in Veg roast, as of now its a good Tamil cuisine thali. Well no complaints on it as I knew it before going.
Oh my god! One of the best restaurants I have ever been to! It was my first time trying Tamil cuisine and it didn’t disappoint. We had the beef uttapum which was delicious. We also had the aubergine curry and coconut prawn moilee which were to die for. They also have some gluten free options which is great. I wish I lived in London to come back to this gem. I 10000% recommend it. The staff was also very nice.
We had heard a lot about the Tamil Crown and struggled to get a booking for a while so expectations were high.
We booked a table of 6 with our baby daughter, upon arrival we discovered the dining hall is up very small narrow stairs. We had a big buggy and our daughter was asleep so not an ideal start.
We went for a Sunday roast and had a choice of veg, chicken, lamb or fish. I chose chicken. The food arrives stacked on the plate and the flavours were nice.
The negatives; it was spicy, all of it, with the exception of the roti - we had to ask for Yogurt (my wife and family are Indian too). As well as that the flavours just didn’t work together, lots of the same thing. We ordered extra gravy (£5.50) and this wasn’t needed and was spicy too.
The staff were very nice, polite and accommodating and the location was decent. Overall though, the food let the experience down so we will not be returning.
Came with a group of friends for dinner. The highlights were the rotis, onion Bhajis, lamb chops (tasty and tender) and the mango lassi. Would also recommend the Crown cocktail (made with cardomon rum). Some dishes are quite spicy which worked well for me but not for everyone at the table. It would help to indicate the spice level on the menu or when taking the order. The quality was well above average, but the portions were too small for the price. I'd prefer the option of sharing portions for larger groups. The service was good but sadly we asked for extra lamb chops for our group of 6 but they only brought out 4 and the other two didn't come out until they had started clearing our empty plates!
The Sunday roast was exceptional! Every element on the plate was bursting of flavour! The food arrived quickly and hot. The portions are more than generous, it can easily be shared among 2 if not too hungry. But in all honesty the food is so tasty you will want to finish the whole thing!
