Best Times to Visit
Reservations are a must, especially for lunch and dinner, as the restaurant is small and highly anticipated. Given the positive reviews and the limited seating, it's advisable to book well in advance.
We made a reservation in advance and visited for dinner last weekend!
The owner, who had run a restaurant in Tokyo for many years, has returned to his hometown in the San'in region to open this restaurant!
The interior is very quiet, calm, and has a sophisticated, stylish atmosphere. It's run by a male owner and female staff. Luckily, we were the only group there that day, allowing us to enjoy a relaxed and luxurious time.
Every dish was incredibly elaborate, and each dish was explained carefully. And what was truly amazing was the overwhelming volume of each dish!
I've eaten delicious food in many places, but this is undoubtedly the best. Every dish was absolutely exquisite.
Here's what we had:
* Charge (¥500 per person for bread and amuse-bouche): Crispy baguette with rich pâté and pickles. It was delicious right from the start.
* **Okuizumo Free-Range Colorful Tenyu Egg Oeuf Mayo** (¥600): The rich, thick, special mayonnaise sauce enhances the rich flavor of the eggs themselves.
* **Daisen Ruby Pork Ham and Mushroom Salad** (¥2,000): A generous portion of moist, exquisite ham is piled high, complemented by fresh mushrooms and crispy cheese – a perfect combination that will keep you coming back for more.
* **Pig's Feet, Tongue, Belly, and Ear Croquettes** (¥2,800): Crispy on the outside, these croquettes are packed with the delicious flavors and crunchy textures of various parts of the pig. They pair perfectly with the special sauce.
* **Off-Menu Meat Dish (Duck):** We were told they had some meat not on the menu that day, so they prepared duck for us. We were surprised by the impressive volume when it arrived! The skin was crispy and fragrant, and the meat was incredibly juicy. The main dish was perfect in every way, from the flavorful sauce to the potato galette, mushrooms, and vegetables underneath.
The portion size is quite generous and very satisfying (the chef says it's a generous preparation based on a four-person serving!), so I definitely recommend sharing and enjoying various dishes with a group.
I had a chance to talk with the owner on my way out, and he was a wonderful person. Hearing his passionate feelings for his hometown and his dedication to cooking made me an even bigger fan.
(Those who listened to the radio will know that there's a surprise waiting for you in the stylish restroom that's been the talk of the town!)
I'm so happy that such a wonderful and delicious restaurant has opened in the San'in region. I will definitely make a reservation and visit again with a large group!
This restaurant reopened in Matsue in April after renovations.
It seems they were previously operating in Tokyo.
I had business in Matsue, so I made a lunch reservation that day, not expecting much, but I was able to secure a table easily.
I went up to the restaurant on the second floor just before the 11:00 AM opening time. Since the building's parking lot was for other businesses, the owner himself kindly guided me to their designated parking space (it wasn't that far).
Three groups of customers were already seated.
The restaurant is small, seating about 10 people.
You choose one of the daily lunch specials (three main dishes that day) written on a blackboard on the wall.
An appetizer is always included.
This time I chose the chicken ballotine.
For drinks, you can choose from wine (glass or bottle), beer, sake (local sakes Toyo no Aki and Tenon), or non-alcoholic beverages.
Since I was driving, I chose non-alcoholic sparkling water.
While waiting, I could hear the sounds of cooking coming from the kitchen.
It didn't feel like they were rushing; the whole restaurant had a relaxed atmosphere.
I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the appetizer plate of the customer who was served before me.
The plate was huge and the portions were enormous!
The appetizers were the same for everyone; other customers were also served the same plate and everyone was astonished.
(Each plate was about 25 cm in diameter)
The variety was abundant and beautifully presented, including local fresh vegetables wrapped in Ooyama prosciutto, pickles, terrine, liver pâté baguette, and confit. It looked like enough for two or three women to share, but I managed to finish it all by myself (I had skipped breakfast, of course). Every dish was fresh and deliciously seasoned.
And then the main course arrived, and that was also incredibly huge!
Ballotine is apparently a dish where the bones are removed from meat or fish, and vegetables and other ingredients are placed inside and rolled up (like a chicken wing dumpling, if you will ← maybe not💦), but it was truly a huge chunk of meat.
I was hesitant to cut into it, wondering if I could eat it all, but the filling was mainly vegetables and the seasoning wasn't too strong, so I didn't get tired of it. It took some time, but I managed to finish the mashed potatoes, broccoli, and asparagus side dishes as well. The bread on the separate plate was also fragrant, and I wiped up all the sauce on the plate before eating it.
At this point, I couldn't help but order dessert!
I ordered nougat glacé and hot coffee, which I'd never heard of (and probably never eaten before).
The meringue and sorbet, sprinkled with nuts and dried fruit, were a perfect match (like polar bear ice cream ← I know, it's not😓), and the raspberry sauce added a nice finishing touch.
It was a truly satisfying lunch, both for my stomach and my heart; skipping breakfast was definitely the right decision.
The portion sizes and style of the dishes reminded me of regional French bistros (large portions).
This is a very high-level restaurant, and I anticipate that reservations for both lunch and dinner will become extremely difficult in the future!

I went because I'm a fan of Sakuma-san.
I went for lunch, and I had decided to order the best lunch! I wanted beef, but it was pork, which was a little disappointing.
And, it was a chili tomato flavor, which is totally not to my liking.
It wasn't the flavor I was expecting here...
The sauce didn't cling to the meat...
I was expecting something like demi-glace or something similar.
The appetizer was very satisfying.

A bistro that relocated from Nihonbashi Kodemmacho, Tokyo.
Although it just opened in April 2026, it's already a highly-anticipated restaurant.
