Danny & Coop's is a highly acclaimed, tiny 'hole in the wall' establishment in New York City's East Village, specializing in a single, perfectly executed item: the Philly Cheesesteak. Known for its generous portion of tender, flavorful meat, creamy cheese, and soft onions, all served on a unique sesame-seeded bread that is crunchy outside and fluffy inside. The ordering process is efficient, with text notifications when your sandwich is ready. Seating is minimal, offering only standing room at high-top bar tables.
Customers overwhelmingly praise Danny & Coop's, often calling it the 'best cheesesteak in NYC' and 'worth the hype.' Reviewers consistently highlight the tender, well-seasoned steak, the perfectly melted and evenly distributed creamy cheese, and the standout sesame-seeded bread. The balance of flavors is frequently mentioned, with the optional spicy or sweet peppers appreciated for cutting through the richness. While the quality is lauded, some note the price point ($23.41 for the sandwich alone) and the lack of seating as minor drawbacks.
The restaurant is located in the East Village. Customers often take their sandwiches to go, with nearby Tompkins Square Park being a popular spot to enjoy the meal. The packaging is designed to keep the sandwich intact and appealing.
To avoid longer waits, it is recommended to visit at opening. During busy periods, wait times for orders can extend to 20 minutes, with lines of 15 or more people.
