had my birthday dinner at Kochi tonight. the food was amazing, it's definitely beyond typical one star quality. the flavors of each dish are very unique and surprises you with each dish. you won't feel repetitive. we also added the chef special abalone. my favorites tonight were definitely the first dish tofu with asparagus soup and the lavender duck. the only dish i didn't enjoy as much was the broth for the halibut, it was too salty and heavy for my liking. overall, the food and service exceeded my expectations. will be another addition to my list of places to take friends.
Kochi has an incredible tasting menu that i swear contained some of the best singular bites you could possibly have. The flavors are incredibly complex as within the dishes they perfectly balance the spice. The succession of dishes is incredible as it layers on flavors that complement one another
As a Korean, this maybe very far from the Korean food that I am used to but it was my first fine dining experience so bear with me.
All the dishes were Korean inspired, I wouldn’t say they were necessarily Korean food. All the dishes and their ingredients scream Korean but it didn’t feel or taste like it. The tuna bibimbap I got was good and my favourite of the night but it’s not the one that your family would eat of a communal bowl with literally every single fixing. The banana milk dessert also didn’t taste like banana milk at all, I was chasing that nostalgic feeling the entire night but was left feeling a longing for my mom’s cooking instead.
Great food and experience but just not Korean. I expected more from a fine dining experience but maybe it’s a me problem.
A world of flavor in a small corner of Hell's Kitchen. Beautiful presentation and modern execution. Most dishes are kept lighter than we're usually exposed to in most American Korean dishes in order to keep you going through the full milti course meal. The fish and meats were both perfectly cooked and had many flavors of the flame they were grilled with. A scallop dish upon pickled root vegetables was a highlight of the tiny plates. The meal ended beautifully with a 3 piece ballet of sorbet, banana, and creams. The staff was as exceptionally accommodating as the flavors. The star was deserved.
I had very nice experience in their sister restaurant Mari recently, so i set my expectation high. The asparagus soup was the best , was flavourful and creamy. The scallop and halibut were nice but a bit blend to be served in a Michelin starred restaurant. How the food was prepared didn’t bring the best flavour of the ingredients. For example, the octopus skewers were nicely presented, but they didn’t have any octopus taste, but just some deep fried food with curry aioli. Mince tuna didn’t go well with gochujang, i could only taste gochujang from the bibimbap. Also not sure about deep fried aubergines with caviar. The duck was chewy with a lot of connective tissue. Overall very disappointed.
