We travelled from London and would do it again without hesitation. In my opinion, the best restaurant in the UK.
The cooking is a masterclass in British seasonality. Every dish feels coherent, purposeful, and rooted in what's growing and swimming right now — nothing is there for the sake of it. The monkfish was superb: one of those dishes that stays with you. The whole menu holds together with a clarity that's genuinely rare at this level.
On value, it comfortably outperforms London's three-star restaurants. Yes, the pricing reflects the location in Cartmel, but even setting that aside, the quality here exceeds what you'll find at comparable addresses in the capital. That's not a small thing to say, and I mean it without reservation.
The service is exceptional — among the best I've experienced anywhere in the world. Water never dropped below 90% full, wine glasses were kept topped throughout, and the table was quietly maintained without any sense of theatre or interruption. Breadcrumbs cleared, every detail attended to. A kitchen tour before the main course was a wonderful touch — it set the tone perfectly for everything that followed.
If you're weighing up whether it's worth the journey, it is.
Amazing!! My husband and I dine regularly at michelin restaurants and are use to a very high standard of service and food quality. L’Enclune went above and beyond!! If you are thinking of coming just book, you will not be disappointed. The journey is worth it.
I only wish it was closer to where I live because I’d be here on a regular basis. The team should be so proud of what they are achieving in the kitchen and front of house. Thank you for an incredible night!

Another fantastic lunch and a great experience.
The service is exemplary. Excellent and friendly front of house. The food is well explained and perfectly executed.
There's such amazing attention to detail. Small things like the soup spoon perfectly hugging the curve of the bowl, the envelope the menu arrives in being the same shade of grey as the staff aprons, the synchronised delivery of the courses to each diners at the table.

Luxury at its finest. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to L’Enclume once again. The overall experience is unlike anything you find every day. The impeccable service and incredible attention to detail made our visit feel even more special. The food was faultless from start to finish. Meeting the chefs in the kitchen afterwards was a lovely touch, and we already can’t wait to return.

Wow. The place is just on another level. The food is, obviously, incredible. Each course totally unique from the last and the attention to detail is amazing. But the service is what sets it apart. The staff are super welcoming, explain every dish as if they’ve just plated it and it’s almost like a performance in its own right. It was booked as a 40th birthday treat and it definitely did not disappoint.
I should add that we had the overnight stay package with breakfast at Rogan and co; also superb. Rooms were great and the breakfast top tier 👌🏻
