Makris Athens by Domes offers a luxurious fine dining experience with a creative combination of Greek gastronomy and culture. The restaurant is located on a rooftop, providing a beautiful view of the Acropolis, and features a unique glass floor revealing ancient ruins underneath. It began its culinary journey in 2018 in Corfu, taking its name from the island's ancient designation, and is now a prominent part of the Domes hotel group's commitment to luxury and authenticity.
Customers consistently praise Makris Athens for its unforgettable culinary journey, highlighting the creative, delicious, and beautifully presented dishes, especially the Utopia tasting menu. The service is frequently described as exceptional, attentive, and personalized, contributing to a seamless and luxurious experience. Many consider it one of the best restaurants they've visited, appreciating the blend of innovation and genuine Greek hospitality. While overwhelmingly positive, one review noted an overpriced wine list and disappointing sommelier service, suggesting it might not always meet the highest European Michelin standards for all guests.
Additional Details
The restaurant's name, Makris, originates from the ancient name of Corfu, where the restaurant first launched in 2018 at the Domes Miramare hotel. It is part of the Domes hotel group, known for offering luxury and authentic experiences.
A beautiful view of the Acropolis when dining outside on rooftop.
Drinks: the best mocktails we have ever had. Butterscotch Fizz was the best cocktail I've ever had. Had a Cosmopolitan, very good as well. Had them make a custom cocktail with mescal, which did not disappoint (10/10). We did not try any wine, and I highly recommend trying cocktails as they are each crafted to absolute perfection.
Do yourself a favor and splurge on the caviar menu, best we've had in the world. We tried the more basic one, and the albino caviar- which was mind blowing.
Service: 10/10, basically I have no words, it was perfection.
Tasting menu: we did the Utopia menu. Highlights: Cappuccino Illusion, Greek Mutton, White Grouper with Morels, and the first dish of the night the Ionian Sea. The desserts were also one of the favorites of the meal.
At least 9 out of 11 dishes were incredible, and overall it was an unforgettable experience worth every penny.
A wonderful dining experience. Beautiful glass floor with ruins underneath. Dining at Makris Athens was easily one of the most memorable culinary experiences I’ve had. The Utopia tasting menu truly lives up to its name—each course felt like a carefully crafted journey, balancing creativity, precision, and incredible flavor. Every plate was not just food, but an experience, showcasing thoughtful combinations and stunning presentation.
What really elevated the evening, though, was the service. The staff was exceptionally attentive without ever feeling intrusive—anticipating needs, explaining each dish with genuine enthusiasm, and making the entire experience feel seamless and personalized.
From start to finish, Makris delivered on every level: atmosphere, innovation, and hospitality. If you’re looking for a refined dining experience in Athens that feels both luxurious and deeply intentional, this is a place that absolutely deserves it’s reputation.
Easily one of the best restaurants I've ever been to. The attention to detail and service are a perfect 10/10, as is the phenomenally creative and delicious dishes. The presentation does lean a bit into the theatrical (stay tuned for dry ice and table poetry...) so you must arrive in the mood to be entertained. But if you're ready for a true culinary adventure that represents the best of what fine Greek dining has to offer, you will not be disappointed. Highly, highly recommend! A must-visit in Athens.
The food is genuinely good and certainly worthy of a Michelin star — even though the menu itself is built on rather unimpressive, simple ingredients. Unfortunately, the overall experience is dragged down by very poor service. I truly hope the Michelin inspectors were treated better than regular guests.
The wine list is overpriced, and the sommelier in particular felt completely out of place for a restaurant of this level. A change in that position would be highly recommended.
For U.S. tourists* this might still be an exciting and impressive place.
But for European guests who are used to dining in Michelin‑starred restaurants the experience is disappointing and not up to standard.
**Good food, but overall not recommended.**
The flavour of the Greek landscape and sea, carried by warmth and story. Markis delivered one of the best culinary experiences I've had! Beautiful without arrogance, which is rarer than it should be.
The service was full of joy and laughter from start to finish. Genuinely down-to-earth hospitality at the highest level. There was even a difficult diner at one point, and the staff handled it with such grace it became its own kind of impressive.
I'll be back for a different season. Thank you!
