Nishi-Azabu Sushi Shin offers an intimate and high-end omakase sushi experience in Minato-ku, Tokyo. With only 8-9 seats, it provides a chef-centric dining journey where the main sushi chef, Shin, is praised for his artistic and precise preparation of each sushi piece. The restaurant is recognized for its excellent cooking and has been awarded two Michelin stars.
Customer Perception
Customers frequently praise the restaurant for its 'perfect' and 'artistic' sushi, highlighting the incredible freshness of the fish and the depth of flavors. The chef's skill and precision are often compared to a musician's performance. Appetizers are noted as creative and beautifully executed. However, some negative feedback includes reports of bones found in multiple dishes, inconsistent service, and a perceived preferential treatment towards local Japanese customers over tourists, leading to a less satisfying experience for some international guests.
The restaurant provides an exclusive and intimate dining atmosphere, focusing on the omakase (chef's choice) experience. The small number of seats ensures a personalized interaction with the chef.
Due to its very limited seating (8-9 seats) and high demand as a two-Michelin-starred establishment, reservations are essential and should be made well in advance. Dinner is the primary meal service.

This is a very good sushi restaurant with high-quality ingredients and skilled preparation throughout the meal. Everything was well executed, and it's certainly a solid choice for anyone looking for an excellent sushi experience in Tokyo.
However, I personally felt something was missing that would make the experience truly memorable. While I can appreciate why the restaurant is highly regarded, I found it difficult to justify two Michelin stars based on my visit.
The service was professional and attentive, though I would have appreciated a slightly warmer and more engaging approach. The food was consistently good, but it didn't quite reach the exceptional level I had anticipated given the restaurant's reputation.
Overall, I enjoyed the meal and have no criticisms of the restaurant itself. I simply felt that there are several unrated or one-star sushi restaurants in Tokyo that offer a similarly high level of quality while providing better overall value. This is unquestionably a quality restaurant; it just didn't stand out.
There's some culinary experiences that will just stick with you forever you go and this was one of them.
The main sushi chef shin, when I watch him prepare food I know it's what he was put on this earth to do. When he makes sushi it's not just sushi it's art.
I noticed every piece when it came time to put the rice and the fish together he would close his eyes and his hands would delicately dance as they make a piece of sushi.
The sushi was so good and had depth of flavor and it was also the appetizers that really stood out. In particular I don't like liver but I loved their monk fish liver. The amount of care and attention to detail that goes into every piece no wonder it has a two Michelin star. well deserved.
was delightful experience at the start but with a horrible strange anticlimatic end. for the starters, the aji was my personal favourite, while my husband loved the ara. the alcohol options were super reasonable and sake amount was very decent too.
the meal ended rather abruptly right after the last nigiri was served.
would think that a michelin 2 star would at least serve a dessert. even a simple one would have sufficed.
instead, the meal ended with the staff asking us if we would like to top up extras (and it also wasn't the first time the staff asked us if we wanted to add on more dishes at an additional fee) which concluded our dinner feeling like it was an odd upsell opportunity.
there was also an additional 25% tax charge despite our reservation on tablecheck already stating that the tax was included.
Excellent award-winning sushi restaurant, located in Nishiazabu. Wonderful flavours and several unique pieces, prepared masterfully. Friendly and attentative staff.
Holy moly. Basically perfect. The sushi was worthy of its high rating on Tabelog and it's 2 Michelin stars. Small seating area (8 seats) so of course book early. Sake selection was a nice touch as they had an off-menu one that was delightful!
