I’ll tell you what this place was much better than I expected. I was a bit nervous. But I was ready to explore and experiment with my palette. I love the idea of it being farm to table. So let’s start at the very beginning. It’s Santa Monica and parking does suck. I’m just gonna say that flat out. It’s hard to find parking. There’s no parking structure or valet that’s near. It is pretty loud at this restaurant. However, the food is divine. My favorite thing was the broiled oysters, I could eat a dozen! My second favorite would have to be the Japanese sweet potato flautas. We were a group of four and we sampled each other‘s dishes. So we had the flautas the roasted chicken and the pork shoulder. We also had the bluefin tuna ceviche with blood orange not my favorite, but not terrible either a little bit too sweet for my liking. We also had the honey ice cream. And I had the espresso martini which was delicious. Now I know the menu changes regarding the season, but overall, I would definitely return. I love experimenting with my palette and I’m such a foodie so I’m glad it was worth it lol. Mara and Randal were great! Almost forgot that the water they serve is Aqua Pana which is my faveeee!
i booked a table here for my birthday because birdie g’s had closed and i heard jeremy fox was the head chef here as well. i quickly learned he was no longer head chef, but that’s no judgment on the quality of the food. i ordered the ‘let us cook for you’ where they prepare several courses involving everything on the menu and more and every single item they served was absolutely stellar. from presentation to flavor and the freshnesss of the ingredients, the chefs at this restaurant are incredibly gifted. the service was good, though not particularly so. the staff was friendly, but it is not a catered fine dining experience they cultivate, but a hands-off, out-of-your-way type of service. this is preferrable to some, but for me it was not on par with the birdie g’s-level of service i would have preferred. knowledgeable, top-notch service does not seem to be the priority of rustic canyon, but the incredible food speaks for itself.

I absolutely loved this place. It was cosy and the food was sensational. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water and I’ll definitely miss it.

Enjoyed our 1 year wedding anniversary here - what an experience. Kicked off with the bread and honey butter. Enjoyed the beet salad (must have) with crudo (unique with strawberries and mint). The sea bass and steak were so tasty too, could even eat the fish skin. The corn was out of this world too. Paired with wine and ice cream, one of the best meals we’ve had in a while. Service and ambiance were top notch too.

I’ve been to Rustic Canyon several times and it’s always been a stalwart in the SaMo resto scene but my most recent visit was … subpar, which was especially disappointing because I brought a friend from out of town.
Let’s start with the food—we were so excited to try the salmon crudo but the dish was all wrong. The dish was TINY. The salmon was too thick of a cut for crudo. And to add insult to injury the salmon was incredibly fishy, and we had to send it back. The best dish was the fresh tomatoes which is not hard to do. The gnocchi was flavorful but wildly over salted.
Then the rest—it was so loud inside it was hard to hear anything. We ordered drinks that came out halfway through our courses and only because we reminded the server. The only plus I’ll give them is that they comped our crudo, but the value for the price this time was really disappointing and I honestly can’t say I’d be excited to come back.
