Key Information
Under is the world's largest and Europe's only underwater restaurant, offering a unique dining experience submerged in the icy waters of the North Atlantic Ocean. Located in Båly, Norway, the restaurant focuses on exploring the sea with all senses, making the journey and stay an integral part of the overall experience.
Customer Perception
Customers perceive Under as a high-end, fine dining establishment, particularly noted for its innovative seafood menu and the unique ambiance of dining underwater. Specific dishes like the 'edible shell' (deconstructed oyster) and langoustine have been highlighted as standouts.
The restaurant's architecture is a significant draw, as it is partially submerged beneath the sea surface, offering panoramic views of the marine life through a large window. It is situated in Lindesnes, on the outskirts of Spangereid.
No specific peak times or ideal days to visit were mentioned in the provided information, but given its fine dining nature and unique location, reservations are likely essential.
No words can describe the amazing experience the whole family had at Under. First of all, the staff is simply incredible. From the moment you make the reservation to the moment you walk out of there with a huge smile on your face, every one is super friendly and knows very well their stuff. Special mention to Chris, Damien, Juan and Mickey who made our night extraordinary. We were even able to take a picture with the chefs and the staff in the kitchen at the end of our night. Second of all, we had someone with many allergies in our family and Lill Karina made sure that there was absolutely no problem with the meals and the juice paring. Communications were easy and quick. Third of all, the food was delicious. Local products prepared by the cooks AND the servers. Every one participates and you can see they put a lot of love in every single meal. Finally, the setup is dreamlike. It’s luxurious, calm and grandiose. The glass is clean and you can see pretty well in the water. We saw fishes, jellyfishes, sea stars and a crab. This night was worth every single penny. Thank you again to everyone who contributed to it, we truly appreciate it.
A Michelin‑starred restaurant in a extraordinary setting; The entire dining room sits five meters below sea level. Reservations are required, and there’s a fairly steep booking fee (2,000 NOK), but the experience is unlike anything else.
We had an eleven course menu with one wine pairing and one juice pairing. The wine selection was bold, featuring bottles from across Europe, while the juices were crafted in‑house to match each individual dish. Since the restaurant is submerged, the menu revolves around seafood, and lovely presented in creative way.
The staff is international, and each dish is introduced by the chefs themselves, adding a personal touch to the experience. The architecture is stunning, and the underwater view makes the meal feel special. If you go, I’d recommend booking an early seating to enjoy the daylight filtering through the water.
Probably the best restaurant experience I’ve ever had. Not cheap by any means, but well worth the cost at least once. I’ve been wanting to try it for many years and it didn’t disappoint. The food and staff were exceptional and the building/location is breathtaking. The sauces can get a little much as you get around 8 courses in (they use butter a lot) but they were still incredibly nice. I just wish the last desert course wasn’t so dry. It was a little tricky to eat after so much good, multi-textured food.
Hopefully I can come back one day!
What can I say. This place is one of a kind. Lovely staff, amazing decor where starfish, jellyfish and all sorts of other fish are the actors. Amazing 10 course dinner with wine pairing as well. We brought our 10 and 14 year old girls along for their first ever fine dining experience and they also loved it. No kids menu but they liked 8 out of 10 dishes and we did not mind finishing the other two for them. All in all an evening we will never forget. Thank you UNDER!
An absolutely exceptional experience, out of the ordinary, very good constructed and everything is exactly falling into place with every minute during this experience.
We absolutely loved dining here, and the Under team is more than best prepared to offer you a very unique moment of taking part of their world and be part their well designed concept.
