Wonton Charlies

Key Information

Wonton Charlie's is a small, 18-seat Hong Kong-style noodle bar located in a former ticket office in London Fields. It offers a streamlined menu focusing on hand-made wontons and noodles in slow-cooked broths. It operates as a walk-in spot, also offering takeaway and click & collect services. The restaurant is part of the same team behind Daddybao and Mr Bao.

Customer Perception

Customer perception is mixed but generally positive regarding the ambiance and the core offering. Many praise the flavourful, hand-made wontons, clean broths, and the cool, energetic, no-frills atmosphere, which often evokes a sense of nostalgia for authentic Asian noodle shops. The complimentary Jasmine Tea is also appreciated. However, some customers find the noodles to be thicker and more ramen-like than traditional Asian noodles, and occasionally bland or clumpy. There are also criticisms regarding the authenticity and value for money, with some finding the food tasteless or the broths too salty. Long queues are common, especially on busy weekends, and there have been minor service issues reported, such as lack of communication about sold-out items.

Additional Details

Wonton Charlie's is operated by the same team responsible for the popular London restaurants Daddybao and Mr Bao. The establishment offers free refillable Jasmine Tea, served in traditional cups, adding to its authentic 'old school noodle shop' aesthetic.
