This is not your typical sandwich shop. When you first walk in, you see the granite and the clean lines and efficient set up of this resto.
However, this is arguably some of the best sandwiches in the City.
Ordered their steak sandwich which is an absolute standout. The thinly shaved steak is tender and juicy, layered generously so that each mouthful feels rich without being overwhelming. It pairs beautifully with the creamy aioli, the soft and chewy sourdough bread and contrasting textural crunch of the waffle chips. Dunk it in their signature au poivre gravy and its magnificent!!
Had to also try their jambon (which looks similar of “iberico” ham). The ham is salty and contrasts nicely with tart whole grain mustard buerre. The baguette is chewy and has a great snap!!
The quality of these ingredients is exceptional!! Ill definitely be back to try the other sandwiches.
Weather permitting, try to dine on the tables on their stretch of the sidewalk. The skyline views along the river on Wacker and people watching is an added experience.
I ordered them Muffuletta sandwich and it was delicious. Maybe even better than Central grocery the original in New Orleans. They gave me a chocolate cookie too and it was so good. I might try a different sandwich before I leave Chicago as I’m sure they’re all equally awesome.
$40 for a sandwich and a side is EXTREME so it deserves a further look. The sandwich was large and good but looking underneath it was short on beef. The potato salad was very tasty but it was small. Generally I will say I was ripped off especially since I was looking forward to buying meat and catering. I will NOT go back. The place is beautiful.
Something fresh, and something to savor! That's exactly what I got when I ordered the Smashed Cucumbers, and The Steak. This place has it going on. The cucumbers feature a Dijon vinaigrette with dill and breadcrumbs, and were a pleasant crispy fresh accompaniment to my entree. Which brings me to The Steak. Simply put, it is one of the best sandwiches I have had in my life. Absolutely slaps. The shaved steak, soubise aioli, and crispy gaufrettes on sourdough blend together to make such a sensationally savory flavor. The sandwich is served with a side of au poivre (sauce) which softens up the sourdough for each delectable bite (as I chose to dip mine). All in all a fantastic meal in a comfortable setting with some great music by the way. Compliments to those that chose that as well. Thank you Fatback + The Green Butcher! Very much looking forward to trying more during my next visit.
P.S. They were also very knowledgeable in their ingredients as I was placing my order when I notified them of my food allergies, and kindly accommodating. Thanks again! I'll be back for sure!
Service was exceptional because the staff was extremely friendly and attentive. The food was delicious and there was a lot of it! I could only finish half of the tasty steak sandwich because they piled on so much meat. The restaurant was very clean and the decor was charming. 5 stars!
