There are restaurant visits where it is not only the individual dishes that remain in memory, but the interplay of cuisine, service, atmosphere, and staging. Frantzén is one of those places.
Although I experienced the entire evening without alcohol, I felt as if I were in a positive state of intoxication when leaving the restaurant. From the first conversation in the entrance area, to the elevator ride accompanied by the song “Can’t Stop,” to the kitchen tour, the explanations from the chefs, and the exceptional service, the evening felt like a perfectly staged piece of theatre: coordinated down to the smallest detail, yet never stiff — instead surprisingly warm and personal.
Outside, even late at night, Stockholm still lay in the bright light of Midsommar season — at an hour when it should, in fact, have long been dark. This almost surreal image formed the fitting conclusion to an evening that, for a few hours, felt like a world of its own.
Even among three-star restaurants, there are places that stand out once again. For me, Frantzén is one of them. At the beginning of the evening, I was asked about my best restaurant experience so far. Without hesitation, I answered: The Fat Duck. If I were asked the same question again today, I would have to name two restaurants: The Fat Duck and Frantzén — two experiences that, for me, are almost impossible to surpass.
