Honeysuckle Restaurant offers an Afro-centric dining experience on North Broad Street in Philadelphia, dedicated to reclaiming Black food traditions. Each dish is thoughtfully prepared and presented with a powerful narrative, making it a cultural preservation space that redefines the limits of a traditional restaurant. The ambiance is welcoming, energetic, and artsy, adorned with Black art and history.
Customer Perception
Customers praise the outstanding food and drinks, unique and complex flavors, and beautiful plating. The atmosphere is consistently described as amazing and a true cultural experience, with expert-level cocktails. However, some feedback notes that service can be slow, initial arrival experiences may be frustrating due to unattended host podiums, and portions on the prix-fixe menu can be small. Some dishes, like the 'McDonalds Money' burger, have received mixed reviews, with some finding them gimmicky.
Additional Details
The menu is known for its unique dish names, which often incorporate puns, cultural references, and innovative culinary techniques, such as black eye pea 'miso.' Honeysuckle is the evolution of an earlier concept, 'Honeysuckle Provisions,' which was previously located in West Philly.

I live a few blocks from the original Honeysuckle Provisions and loved both the delicious breakfast and lunch options, plus had one of the best meals of my lifetime with their “Untitled” tasting experience back in 2024. It was bittersweet when they left West Philly, because we could use more elevated dining choices out West, but also felt happy for them to move on up. Fast forward to our first time at Honeysuckle restaurant in February 2026: it was a lovely meal. The vibe/atmosphere is welcoming, energetic, artsy, and very well composed. The servers are friendly and know the menu/mission very well. And the food was delicious! Notable items: Salad russe was one of the best things I’ve eaten in a long time, and the catfish was delightful! However, we got the prix-fixe menu and unfortunately left hungry, even though it was pricey. And there were a fair amount of missteps in the timing of our drinks/courses, leading to a somewhat bumpy, even if yummy night. I know this place has a ton of potential and could prob get a Michelin star someday. But it’s just not there yet. Can’t wait to come back and try again soon (and get the fancy burger!).
A phenomenal dining experience. I cannot say enough about the warmth and attentiveness of the staff. Additionally, the whole restaurant is curated to create an atmosphere that embodies the spirit of the African diaspora which was very grounding from the moment we walked in.
The meal itself was excellent with highlights being the olive oil cake, the meats in the barbeque course (rib, brisket, quail), and the pasta.
I highly recommend!

My wife and I celebrated our 8-year wedding anniversary at Honeysuckle, and the experience was absolutely worth it. The food was so flavorful, bold, and masterfully prepared that each bite felt euphoric—every dish was an experience within itself.
This wasn’t simply dinner; it was a culinary journey. You could taste the creativity, passion, and intention behind every bite. The flavors were powerful, memorable, and unlike anything we’ve experienced at an ordinary restaurant.
What made the evening even more special was having the opportunity to meet and take pictures with Chef Cybille St. Aude-Tate. Celebrating eight years of marriage with my wife deserved something memorable, and Honeysuckle delivered an experience we will continue talking about long after our anniversary.
Amazing food, an unforgettable atmosphere, and a truly special evening. Honeysuckle was worth every moment, and we will absolutely be back.

Honeysuckle has a beautiful atmosphere and an exceptional staff. From the moment we arrived, the service was warm, attentive, and truly one of the highlights of the evening.
Unfortunately, the tasting menu didn’t live up to the experience or the $135 per person price point, especially before tax and gratuity. At that cost, expectations aren’t just high, they’re set. You anticipate a memorable culinary experience where creativity, flavor, pacing, and satisfaction all come together.
Instead, we were served beautifully presented dishes on oversized plates with portions so small they felt almost symbolic. I understand that fine dining is about quality over quantity, but the portions were so minimal that they became distracting. The long gaps between courses only amplified that feeling, turning what should have been an exciting progression into an evening that dragged on.
The food was good and certainly different from anything I’ve had before, but it wasn’t memorable. Nothing left me thinking, “I can’t wait to have that again.” For this price point, guests expect more than novelty. They expect to be impressed.
One more frustration was the payment process. Requiring guests to prepay the full cost of the tasting menu, including tax and gratuity, sets the expectation of a seamless luxury experience. Instead, the final receipt didn’t clearly reflect what had already been paid, creating unnecessary confusion at the end of the evening. At this level, transparency should be effortless, not another question mark.
Honeysuckle absolutely excels in hospitality and ambiance, but the disconnect between the premium price, the pacing, the portion sizes, and the overall dining experience made the evening feel underwhelming. I left appreciating the staff and the beautiful setting, but thinking more about the bill than the meal.

My son and I stopped in unexpectedly after a bike ride. We were window shopping food options and the ambiance on the inside is what drew us in! He is a teen so we had to sit in the lounge section and order from the Ala cart menu but it did not disappoint. He got a mocktail that resembles an elevated Shirley temple that even he could not stop talking about. I got the espresso rumtini which was also incredible. We wanted the McDonald’s money burger and fries but were sadly told they were out so we opted for catfish. In the time we were waiting the GM approached our server to let her know they figured out a solution! We were so pumped. The burger and fries were great. Even the presentation! The ramekin looked like a paper sauce cup but it was actually a real ramekin plus the fry box the beef tallow fries came in definitely gave it that fast food feel. My teenager loved the unique take on the McDonald’s Big Mac. Our server Thalia was very kind and attentive. The Philly food scene has been great to us!
