We dined here last night and it was 5 stars from start to finish. We were warmly greeted and seated promptly. Our server, Gabriella, was wonderful. We feasted on Steak Tartare, Blue Crab Risotto and Crabcakes . I was dealing with a throat issue from reflux and could only eat very plain food, no seasonings or sauces. Gabriella was beyond help in communicating this to the chef and the most wonderful piece of swordfish was presented. It was excellent. I sincerely appreciated their help because I’m not usually one of those people that has all these restrictions. Excellent meal & service.
Best in Cape May!
I have been vacationing in Cape May every year since 2013 many times coming for my birthday on September 8th. The Washington Inn was one of my favorite restaurants and it's owner shares my birthday. The restaurant has been declining in quality since the pandemic and reached rock bottom on my trip to Cape May last week. Historically it offered wine flights which were amazing. Those were taken off the menu since the pandemic although the wine is still excellent. They also had a signature crepe layer cake dessert which is no longer offered. Perhaps they lost their chef. I dined there on August 1st with my daughter and friend. It is a beautiful restaurant and the service is good. My daughter ordered an espresso martini which came out timely. My friend and I each ordered a glass of wine which never arrived. After we finished our appetizers we inquired and the waiter had forgotten and brought the wine out then. My friend and I ordered hamachi crudo to start. It was extremely fishy tasting. My friend sent it back. I ate it but now question whether the fish was old. My daughter and I each ordered the $65 filet mignon as our main course. It was inedible. It was not overcooked yet it was so dry that we could barely swallow it. We sent it back. The waiter returned to inform us that 3 people in the kitchen tasted it and all agreed with us. The waiter told us that the steak was not labeled with a date and was old. Old steaks were mixed with new steak and we were served old steak. We were shocked. We instead ordered cavetelli with lamb ragu and broccoli rabe which was mushy and tasted like it had been microwaved. I have had that dish many times before and it was always good. We were not comped for anything despite being served old meat. Unfortunately I will never go back again.

My family comes here every year on vacation to have a big family dinner, and due to the exceptional professionalism & dedication of Lindsey, the manager of operations here, we have absolutely love sharing our yearly tradition with the Washington Inn. She is prompt, courteous, and kind. There are a few nice restaurants in cape May but the staff here separates it. If you don’t want to spend as much, the bar is a fantastic place to grab a cocktail or some light bites. We love it here and think you will too!

Wow! Cannot say enough good things about this restaurant. My wife and I came here during Memorial day weekend and the servers ensured we had such an excellent time. It's a great place to come for celebrations or romantic outings. The atmosphere is gorgeous and tasteful. Oh and the food? You will forget everything else exists when you are eating because the food is so good.

This is our second time being here. Food was as great as the first time we came. We started with the Burrata app. It has so much flavor and taste so fresh. I had the swordfish and my husband had the Pistachio crusted Rack of Lamb. They were so good. Atmosphere was nice and elegant.
