This restaurant was one of the highlights of the entire day! Everything was delicious and I loved that the AC was blasting as it was pretty hot the day we went! It’s right next to the elephant enclosures so you get amazing views and they do a really great job of paying college to the African roots of the surrounding animals and a lot of drinks and food. Have African ingredients or dishes native to the region. The service was outstanding and the bathrooms were very clean! I will be returning!!
We loved our meal at Mkutano House inside the Elephant Valley in the San Diego Zoo Safari Park in Escondido! We weren’t expecting much from the food but it was actually really great, better than a lot of restaurants. The decor is really cool, it feels like you’re on an African safari, and even from inside sitting you can see elephants as they walk around. We enjoyed the Koji marinated chicken wings , broiled black cod, and pistachio pesto and cheese agnolotti. Friendly and accommodating service and food comes out quickly. I suggest making a reservation, we arrived around 12 and made one for 2:30, so suggest going to open table to make one ahead of time. Recommend!

This restaurant is AMAZING.
I expected to have overpriced, mediocre food with a cool ambiance that was hyped up. Nope. This place DELIVERS! Excellent cuisine, exceptional service, and perfect recommendations. (Thank you and shout out to Emily who did not steer us wrong!). I would go back just for the food… the elephants and being placed in the middle of the Safari Park? Bonus +++ Five stars because it’s a 5 star restaurant on its own. Definitely worth it!
Oh and if you want to sit outside, make reservations but if you don’t mind sitting inside, you can walk right up and get seated (at least this was our experience on a weekday!)

Safari ticket is required to go to the restaurant. When we booked the table no where mentioned that. We drove an hour to get here for our reservation, and when called to ask them why they are asking us to purchase a ticket, they were extremely rude and condescending.
